A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 29, 2025 (July 30 local time). USGS scientists modeled the rupture of this historic earthquake tied for the sixth-largest earthquake ever recorded by modern seismic instruments. Episode 28 of the ongoing Kīlauea summit eruption is over after 9 hours of continuous lava fountaining. The south vent did not appear to activate at all during this episode and has been completely covered by new deposits. Lava fountains reached approximately 1200 ft (365 m).

A few scenes of the new Strombolian activity at #Etna's Southeast Crater during the night of 15-16 March 2025, seen from 5 km distance. Looks big, but actually this is a rather modest activity for Etna standards.

Fault scarps at Mid-Ocean Ridges (MOR) are recognizable on the seafloor, and often measured to estimate the tectonic component of plate divergence. This estimate, based on linear fault scarp parameters, is referred to as apparent tectonic strain (ATS). A team of researchers recently studied fault scarps in young volcanic MOR seafloor, using high-resolution (1–2 m) bathymetry data of eight sites with spreading rates of 14–110 km/Ma.
