Associate Professor of Information & Decision Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I like information technology, economics, and science.
It's a rite of passage for a professor to have their first PhD student defend their thesis. For me, it happened today. Very proud of @chris_tran16 who successfully defended his dissertation "Beyond Model-Free Estimation of Heterogeneous Treatment Effects" ๐๐ฅณ
@yudapearl@tdietterich@gshmueli@eliasbareinboim Thank you for mentioning our paper; your recognizing it means a lot to us. The bulk of work on it was done by my PhD student Sujin Park. I found your 2016 PNAS paper with @eliasbareinboim on โcausal data-fusionโ to be inspiring.
@yudapearl X in your diagram is like the treatment variable of a randomized experiment (no BDP's from X to Y). In this context, a "pre-treatment" variable is one to which there is no causal path from X (https://t.co/iQkmFDTBGe). Such variables should be "neutral in terms of bias."
@sinanaral Your study findings (with Vosoughi and Roy) are very important! I've been discussing this in my class on Social Media & Network Analytics.
Thanks @ProfGarimella! It was a pleasure to present "Beyond Overall Treatment Effects:.." written with @gshmueli, paper forthcoming in ISR here: https://t.co/iQkmFDTBGe
I had to teach my Introduction to Psychology class today to 300+ students from my cell phone while I was trapped in my apartment building elevator with my two young kids.
This has to go down as my most surreal and stressful teaching experience.
[๐จNew Book!๐จ] After 20 years of research and 4 years of writing... I'm SO excited to share my first book "The Hype Machine" with the world!... https://t.co/Rn40SXoGFJ
