I don’t care about the rest. But Saayoni Ghosh, TMC MP, posted a meme showing a condom being put on a shivling. It shook me to my innermost being. I had filed a police complaint against her at Rabindra Sarobar PS, Kolkata - predictably with no results. Then she sung a song as part of TMC’s election campaign, which said she had the Kaaba in her eyes, Madina in her heart.

The facts are clear. The letter below spells them out.

It is long-established precedence in the West Bengal Assembly - as seen in 2001, 2011, 2016 and 2021 that the Leader of the Opposition is recognised upon recommendation by the concerned party. This precedent and practice has been followed consistently for decades. It has been this year as well. After recommendation by the party Shri Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay's appointment has already been accepted by the Hon’ble Speaker .

On 15 May, Shri Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay performed the official function of Leader of the Opposition by escorting the Hon’ble Speaker to the Chair.

There is therefore no ambiguity: Shri Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay is the Leader of the Opposition.
