Habteselassie (the scabby)
17th century noble ruler of Märäb Méllaš Ethiopian empire. As a young child he spent 7 years living in stables and sleeping on hay in Gondär. Due to his poor living conditions he was covered in scabs and cuts. This earned him his nickname ዓባቅ.
He gained favor with king Fasilädäs around 1663 and ruled Märäb Méllaš for another 40 years solidifying his descendants’ grip on power.
