I wanted to bring an important issue to your attention regarding the recent directive by the President to reduce the tax on imported goods to KSh 2 million.

Despite the directive, the KSh 3.2 million tax is still being enforced at the port. When we raise the issue with KRA, we are being told that if we want to have the assessment done at the KSh 2 million rate, we have to open the container and have the goods inspected item by item.

This is proving extremely difficult and feels like a deliberate way of frustrating importers into giving up on the KSh 2 million option and simply paying the KSh 3.2 million being demanded.

We would really appreciate it if you could look into this and bring the issue to the attention of the relevant authorities. The concern is not just about the amount of tax, but whether the Presidential directive is actually being implemented at the port as intended.
