Funny how in the early patch days, people were sooo like 'ummm well if you didn't like DT and don't have anything nice to say, go play other games' and I did indeed go and play other games with better stories- and all it did was crystallize my opinion on how DT was So Bad LMAO
BOTH of these games felt like they were written by a completely different team of people who just. Hated and didn't give a fuck about their source material. Truly, to me. Like it felt actively hostile to play these games as A Guy Who Cared about the previous entries.
Dawntrail ๐ค Tears of the Kingdom
game sequels that were banking on the goodwill of the fans they established in previous entries, only to deliver a mediocre narrative that made you feel like a stupid idiot for putting any critical thought and care into the previous games.
GI may be very goofy and immature a lot of the time, but ultimately, they ALWAYS care about their overarching lore. They seem to always write in a way that can tie it all together
DT felt like they got some rando guys who just didn't give a fuck about the xiv that came before ๐
I said this on my bsky but the thing about Genshin is like- okay it has ALWAYS been written very anime. It is NOT high literature by any means. However, unlike DT you can tell GI seems to always be written by creatives who CARE about the worldbuild, history, and lore.
Like yeah duh if you want to consume total fluff things idgaf. I'm not your dad.
But I think it's absurd to get so wrapped up in your dandelion puff, you turn around and think 'um actually all OTHER media is nasy and make me uncomfy and shouldn't exist'
Still just absolutely aghast at the buffoonery on Blue*sky. Site run by buffoons who have never sat with their discomfort and thought critically upon it in their LIVES.
I've been formulating an extremely evil opinion on the rise of the cozy genre in media/fantasy/gaming spaces and how people will argue to the death that if ANY conflict happens at ALL ever then um actually it's problematic' and like dog I think it's connected
It's 2025, are people seriously still making the asinine argument of 'If you've never published your own piece of media, you're NOT allowed to criticize media'
