Pete Koeniges, DAT, LAT, ATC is the kind of athletic trainer every student athlete hopes is on the sideline. At Northern Highlands Regional High School, he provides medical care, injury prevention, emergency response, treatment and rehab, helping athletes return to play safely and quickly.
But his impact goes beyond routine care. Recently, a visiting basketball player went into cardiac arrest mid-game. Thanks to Pete’s calm, decisive action, years of training and the school’s emergency action plan, he used an AED and CPR to save a life – a moment that embodies what “Care You Can Count On” truly means.
Pete also serves as District 2 Representative for the NATA Secondary School Athletic Trainers Committee and now brings his experience into the classroom through Montclair State University’s kinesiology department, shaping the next generation of athletic trainers.
This National Athletic Training Month, we celebrate Pete – a lifesaver, educator, and advocate – and all the ATs who provide care you can count on every day.

@stephkuzy This NATA Position Statement on lightning is what most policies are going to adhere to. Most groups talk 10 miles clearance and encourage use of systems like @perryweather or @EarthNetworks if possible. #SaferSidelines

What a group we have. Hard work and fun all day means you need to come meet us in Disney Springs and say hello. We want to talk to you. Put on your shoes and find us tonight!
We had some fun today. Thank you all for coming to hear what our committee members had to say. We cannot do what we do without you. Keep being awesome!
Behind every taped ankle, rehab plan, and game-day miracle is an AT pushing through long hours, emotional fatigue, and constant pressure to perform.
Burnout doesn’t always look like exhaustion—it can show up as irritability, disconnection, or even a loss of passion for the job.
@stephkuzy@GLATA_updates Stephanie ,loud criticism can be extremely hard to deal with but you have changed countless lives with your work. Athletic Trainers nationally respect you immensely and feel like you are part of our Athletic Training Family. Thank you for being you & for making an impact!
One of my favorite advanced exercises for the overhead athlete to improve dynamic stabilization of the shoulder joint. 90/90 throws with 2 Ib medicine ball with resistance band & end range dynamic stabilization! #thrower#baseball#overheadathlete
Athletic trainers truly do it all — from the sidelines to the stage, the clinic to the military, and even at @nasa. Whether they’re caring for athletes, performers, service members, or astronauts, ATs are experts in injury prevention, treatment, and keeping people healthy and performing at their best.
We’re proud to celebrate ATs in every setting — because wherever there are active people, ATs belong.

I was Assistant Team Physician of the Yankees for three weeks. Then I got called into Brian Cashmans office. He told me he was promoting me to Head Team Physician. He looked me me in the eyes and asked “Are you ready❓”. I said, “I’m ready‼️”
Then he hit me with this truth, he said to me:
“The higher a monkey climbs, the more you see his ass.”

Wise words. One of the biggest risks of leadership isn’t just making the tough calls—it’s losing self-awareness. The higher you go, the fewer people are willing to challenge you, to tell you when you’re off track. It’s easy to think you have all the answers, but real leadership requires staying grounded, surrounding yourself with those who will push you, and never losing sight of growth 📈
The higher you climb, the more you’re exposed…
Leadership doesn’t just elevate you—it exposes you. The question is, are you prepared for that level of scrutiny❓Are you self-aware enough to handle it❓
