And now, to release an app to the store, I first need *12* opted-in test users to use the app for 14 days! This isn't trivial for a niche app, and I don't even know if I know 12 Android users! (3/n)
I've been hearing for years how much more 'open' Android is than iOS. I'm trying to port an app to Android from iOS and I keep hitting restrictions that iOS doesn't have! (1/n)
First, you need a physical Android device. I understand why they're doing this, but Apple doesn't (yes, you need a Mac to develop the app) and I didn't have one. (2/n)
@Bluestitch_@FionaMullenCY Yes, the turning off of panels and wasting energy are an issue (that an interconnector could fix)
I have less sympathy for the credit limit; I have solar and I knew it existed before I installed, and if you’re consistently positive over a year when would you even use the credits?
@ITirkides@FionaMullenCY My point is that posting claims without checking sources is both bad journalism and has the opposite effect from what you (and I) want here.. it sets up the narrative this is all conspiracy theories and makes it harder for real issues to get attention
@ITirkides@FionaMullenCY Sure, but claims require evidence. I'm disappointed that a journalist with a lot of reach and social capital shared evidence that looks incredibly flimsy (e.g. and)
@FionaMullenCY@ITirkides (in response to the actual linked post: I think publicizing claims without any sort of fact-checking acts against the goal expressed, and we should expect better from journalists, even if they're on 'our side')
@FionaMullenCY@ITirkides I'm curious to your take on the whole Sandygate thing.. I haven't dug too deeply, but the evidence shared was pretty obviously faked (or at least, trivially fakeable and thus not really useful) and there seemed to be no corroboration beyond Sandy's word
@MikeIsaac Part of this is that a lot of people are either very bullish (it’ll take *all* our jobs, and then figure out how to run society) or bearish (it’ll fail to automate anything). What we’re talking about here is a problem of the ‘middle path’ which folks outside tech consider more
Do Americans understand how much easier it is to work in tech if you're born in America? You make 10× the income elsewhere for this ranch work, pay 2-3x less tuition, don't have to think about visa sponsorships/rules/quotas every time you apply for, or do anything.
Half of Cyprus watches the 8pm RIK news, but it's an hour long and in Greek. I'd like to be more in the loop, so I automated a video->transcript->English bullet-point summary->e-mail pipeline. It's in my inbox every morning, with links to related English-language articles!
@FionaMullenCY@Cyprus_Police (warning is still right, people should generally pay attention to browser warnings, even though in this case it's likely a 'forgot to renew' issue)
@FionaMullenCY@Cyprus_Police Expired certificate -- not 'unsafe' per se, but a bad look, especially since it looks like it's been expired for 10 days, and it's the whole https://t.co/IyndlHmNnE domain that's affected..
