Congratulations to our Congolese ATRAP colleagues with this new milestone! 🎉 Also exciting to see that the citizen science approach will be tested on 🦟 and malaria, together with @ITMantwerp and @kuleuven_fwet
At this year's #EMOP2024, our PhD student @CeciliahWangari won the Young Scientist Award, the Audience Award and the 2024 #FAWPAR Journal Award for her oral presentation on qPCR-based environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring of African human schistosome parasites. #Schistosomiasis🪱
📢In this new paper, we argue that community-based monitoring presents a valuable & sustainable complement to classical programs, especially in remote areas, BUT it also empowers communities & increases disease knowledge! 🙌
congrats @NoeliaVaBh & @jtumusiime90 !

A few days have passed since the remarkable Atrap 1 final meeting, and we are still buzzing with excitement! 🚀 It was a fantastic gathering filled with learning and a flood of ideas for Atrap 2. Proud to be part of this awesome project! 🌟 #ATRAP2023@AtrapU
🤔 When asked if he advises his kids against swimming due to bilharzia risks, Chrizestom, citizen scientist from ATRAP, had a powerful reply: "Change begins with our attitudes and actions, especially within our families." 🌟 Embracing change, one step at a time! 💪 #ATRAP2023
🇧🇪 The Belgian Ambassador in Uganda, Hughes Chantry, extends heartfelt gratitude to our citizen scientists for their pivotal role in collecting crucial data to combat snail-borne diseases! 🙏🐌 Together, we're making a difference. 💪@africamuseumbe#ATRAP2023
@HuyseTine is taking the stage to start the discussions at the ATRAP 1 final meeting. She's shedding light on the significance of understanding bilharzia and how knowledge of snail distribution is key for effective control measures! Stay tuned for more insights! 🌍🐌 #ATRAP2023
Exciting news! 🤝 The citizen scientists had a wonderful time meeting the Belgian Ambassador. Everyone is excited to start the kick off the ATRAP 1 final meeting! 🌍🐌 #ATRAP2023#CitizenScience@MbararaUST@africamuseumbe
