14 months since @BHLabourβs pledge to tackle air pollution, yet we still have some of the UK's worst levels. With promises unfulfilled it's time for action. A blog post.

Today is #CleanAirDay! Here at Asthma + Lung UK we have been all over the country fighting for your right to breathe clean air. But despite all our hard work over the last 12 months air pollution remains one of the most significant environmental risks to public health in the UK.
Air pollution in the UK is costing more than Β£500m a week in ill health, NHS care and productivity losses.
Dirty air is killing more than 500 people a week, with health harm to almost every organ of the body, the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) said. https://t.co/LVtZ6ztBqF
Walk with us on #CleanAir Day this Thursday 19th June at 5:30pm in #Brighton and #Hove
from the Royal Sussex County Hospital to Brighton Town Hall to highlight the importance of clean air

Burning wood or coal can triple the amount of harmful pollutants inside your home and produces more small-particle emissions than all road traffic in the UK.
Wood burners and open fires - the cosy killer.

Please stop your trendy #WoodBurning! It is harming our health β€οΈ.
#Brighton & #Hove is more #polluted than London.
@BHLabour please reverse your woeful decision in 2022 and extend the smoke control area asap.
@DavidMcGregorBN Sorry, know this is old, just seen reply.
Just don't issue new alcohol licenses to existing tea / family / community spaces.
That will also aid in keeping existing pubs and clubs going in our city. Saw Fika want an alcohol license.
What is the strength in NOT issuing one?
@BHDemocracyNews@danieljyates could this incorporate a new park to replace the one being built on? A park big enough to accommodate all the new developments in the area and the lost parkland and biodiversity from other developments?
https://t.co/0XhzAD9fSx
@danieljyates Replaced to the north where parkland will be built on to make way for it. This is why I'm saying half the parkland will be lost. I think that is the most correct way to describe the plans as the pictures show.
If youβre in Kemptown & Peacehaven, please urge @chriswardmp to back the Climate and Nature Act, via @zerohour_ukβs campaign. Hopefully heβll listen! π€This is a huge opportunity to protect our planet, but needs the support of more MPs to succeed. π https://t.co/oDvRVyMndh
@DavidMcGregorBN Thanks. Marwoods, a Brighton institution, and Moβs On the Corner were given alcohol licences. Both, fairly soon after, turned into bars. Most of those below, open after 7pm seem to have closed; Mikel, T @ Hove etc. The licence is the problem. Few options

This week we have launched the largest real-time air quality monitoring network in the UK, with live data from 50 sensors available to the public via a new website.
We are also changing our approach to wood-burning, which is a large contributor to fine particulate pollution. ππ»
Today the Europe took a big step towards better public health and lessening the illness and cost from #airpollution.
It's a great victory for rational, evidence-based policy making.
It leaves the #UK lagging behind in protection for our citizens.

We're 53 years behind the Netherlands, but the longer we delay implementing safe streets, the further we fall behind... @bhlabour@TrevMu10@BrightonHoveCC
@Keir_Starmer Why not #trams for public transport inside cities?
Trams do not produce toxic particulates from tyre wear and are 3x more efficient. Bicycles are even more efficient.
Is Labour risking our health for political favours in industry?

@BellaSankey@teachbirds2fly@bhlabour 1.5m new homes, mostly flats (consistent historical failure of new home targets)
2.2m net increase in immigration alone over last 5 years (Labour doesn't prioritise reduction)
Will the number of homes per person in fact reduce?
How much more green belt in B&H will you build on?
