Following an impactful engagement at MOBEX Africa 2026, BudgIT Ghana continues to champion the intersection of digital sovereignty, civic tech, and open governance!

Our team was proudly represented on the ground by the Lead Officer of our civic-tech project, Tracka, Evelyn Olukeye @evelynolukeye, engaging with leaders, innovators, and decision-makers on how secure digital identity frameworks can strengthen public trust and democratic participation across the continent.

A major highlight for us was seeing our very own Board Chair, Nehemiah Attigah @attigs, take the stage to lend his expertise and voice to the discussions. As a pioneer of development technology himself, his contribution of key insights and steering critical dialogue, reinforces our commitment to shaping inclusive digital ecosystems.

As Africa redefines its digital identity and sovereignty, we must remain at the fore of the fight, to ensure technology serves the public good and holds power accountable.

Digital identity and data sovereignty are no longer just tech discussions–they are fundamental to citizen rights, open governance, and public accountability across Africa.

Today,we are participating in the MOBEX Africa 2026 Conference at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, centered on the theme: "Resetting Africa's Digital Identity and Sovereignty."

I've spent over seven years in tech, as a software engineer (full stack and backend), a developer advocate, a community builder and Vice President of a global open source foundation.

From building AI apps and delivering technical AI workshops to judging hackathons (Microsoft, UN, Cerebral Valley etc) on global tech stages, I've seen how the way we build software has changed so much in just the last few years. AI can now generate, review and test code, which is super exciting, but it also raises real questions about quality, security and what our role as engineers looks like next.

Has the money moved beyond paper?
Did the project move beyond promise?

That should tell you what you need to know.🙄

Being an active citizen means knowing when to join the conversation, when to challenge the narrative, and when to follow the money.
