Our annual scientific progress meeting on October 6 was once again an inspiring day that brought students, postdocs and professors together at @uOttawa to talk about #photonics from our “extremely” different perspectives.
#OpticaFellow Robert Boyd (@uOttawa, @UofR) is honored with the Frederic Ives Medal/Jarus W. Quinn Prize at #FIO23.
The recipient of Optica’s highest prize, Boyd is a leading pioneer in nonlinear optics, impacting the areas of slow light, quantum imaging, metamaterials and more.
We are very happy for the laureates of the 2023 @NobelPrize in Physics and for the recognition this brings to all of #attoscience! We are very proud to have been a part of it from the beginning and continue to bring our view to this exciting field of physics! #plasmaperspective
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPrize in Physics to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier “for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter.”
And that's a wrap on the 33rd ICPEAC 2023 in Ottawa! We had:
✅talks by outstanding speakers
✅leaders of their research fields
✅next generation of young talents
✅hundreds of posters
✅time to network, discuss science, form new collaborations
CU @ ICPEAC 2025 in Sapporo!
Today, our own postdoc Dr. Shima Gholam Mirzaei will give an invited talk titled “High harmonics from metal surfaces” at @icpeac2023_ca. https://t.co/WqCh5J9ymf #NRCQuantum@JCEP8@uOttawa
Today, Dr. Sohail Jalil and Dr. Giulio Vampa shed light on Controlling the polarization and phase of high-order harmonics with a plasmonic metasurface for the closing day of @icpeac2023_ca https://t.co/VcoDaECPOM
#ICPEAC2023 weekend was a great opportunity to recharge and network with colleagues in different settings during guide city tours of Ottawa and Montreal or a memorable rafting trip o the mighty Ottawa with @Wildernesstours.
Tonight we will have the conference dinner in the beautiful Trillium Ballroom of the @Shaw_Centre, where we will give out the outstanding poster awards. We will also have a string trio for some musical entertainment. Dress code: dressy casual. Don't miss it!
Hear Dr. Donna Strickland, #Nobel Laureate in Physics, speak in Ottawa this week. Her free public lecture is titled “Generating High-Intensity, Ultrashort Optical Pulses” on July 26 at 8 p.m. at the @Shaw_Centre. https://t.co/2quUXpOllM @UWaterloo@icpeac2023_ca#NRCQuantum
Tomorrow night, Professor Teresa Scassa, Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy at @uOttawa's Faculty of Law, will give a free public lecture in Ottawa on the legal aspects of #AI as part of @icpeac2023_ca https://t.co/j4fNTG6ODW
Tomorrow, Dr. Paul Corkum, a co-director of @JCEP8, talks about how #attosecond science is evolving not only at the NRC, but around the world.

RT Please: I will be giving an online course on Mathematical Methods for Physicists for students in the middle east; the course is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education in Kurdistan and by the University of Garmian. Link to the Google form for registration: https://t.co/5Iou3WfqSo
Finally it is official: Congratulations to Dr. David M. Villeneuve for being awarded the 2023 W. G. Schneider Medal, the highest recognition of achievement at the @NRC_CNRC! David has served NRC and Canada above and beyond. We are thrilled for this recognition!
Look who was at the @OpticaWorldwide booth at #LaserWorldOfPhotonics last week! Our own Dr. Shima Gholam was holding up the flag for @attoscience_ca. She also gave a buzz-generating talk on a 3d femtosecond pulse characterization technique developed @ProfMChini's lab.
Last day at #LaserWorldOfPhotonics. Who will stop by the @OpticaWorldwide booth or coffee house today? Genaro Montanez and I are ready to talk about membership, student chapters, #OpticaFoundation programs, publishing, meetings, technical groups... whatever is on your mind.
