If Ireland is serious about AI, we cannot simply become dependent on tools, platforms and systems built elsewhere.

We need to think much more seriously about AI independence, how we build the skills, resilience and capacity here at home so that businesses, workers and public services are not left exposed if external AI services are withdrawn, restricted or controlled elsewhere.

AI can bring huge gains in productivity and innovation, but we also need to prepare for the risks: dependency, job displacement and the need for rapid upskilling.

Ireland should be a leader in responsible AI adoption, but we also need the capability and resilience to stand on our own feet.
