Absolute history in the Ntare Lions League.

@omujuma are champions once again. The kings retain their crown, and the throne remains unbroken. Last season was no fluke. They came, they saw, and they defended the shield.

Last season’s champions are this season’s immortals and for the first time ever in NLL history, we have a back-to-back champion.

The Journey to Homeground 🧵

From Renting Pitches to The Den 🦁🏟️

For years, the Ntare Lions League has been more than just a football competition, it has been a weekly pilgrimage of alumni brotherhood, passion, and culture. But every nomad eventually needs a home. For 15 seasons, the NLL moved across Kampala’s rented grounds, carrying the league's spirit on borrowed turf.

[A. Aroriza @aroriza]

Of the @ntare_league finales, this season 16 finale reminds most of our childhood days in the 90s.

We would craft a ball using dry banana fibres or old polythene bags, identify a vacant piece of land in the neighborhood regardless of its terrain, mark goals using our shoes and clothes or sometimes actually use timber poles agree verbally on where our imaginary pitch boundary lines were and turn that space into our own stadium and make our own rules that changed with context.

It’s a finale that reminds me of that excitement and the freedom and free-spiritedness that came with just being a child. It’s a finale that reminds me of what a liberating game - soccer especially in its pure kalele form - can be.

You might not realize it now, but you finalists, @Machando04 and @omujuma will be making history and shaping the future of alumni leagues as we break ground on 29th August. #NLLatHome

29th is getting closer

Now the big question, who has the advantage?

Is it TY Omujuma’s 1/2 consistency and momentum, or does Machando (former 3/4 merchants) have the edge when it matters most?

Who are you backing, and why?

You go to a kasaawe in the evening to 'kill stress' but your teammates end up frustrating you more than your actual life problems 👐🏾

Sn 16 has been a roller coaster - full of highs, lows and the surprises. But what if the #NLLXVI were an actual coaster (mini-bus) ride? Ladies and gentlemen… a THREAD. #NLLAtHome [1/23]
