"Strong people stand up for themselves, but the strongest people stand up for others."
My mom teaches me how to be of service for the good of others. She shares when she doesn't have enough. She listens when she's in pain. Her strength is derived from adversity. Love you, Mama!
The newly appointed Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Abdul Aziz Turay, on Thursday 3rd October, 2024, took formal leave of His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House.
@PresidentBio@VP_Jalloh@TimKabba
Today at State House, the High Commissioner to the Gambia, Martha Consilia Kanagbo; the Ambassador to The Republic of Korea, Paul Sobba Massaquoi; the Ambassador to Algeria, Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma; and, the Deputy Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Abdul Aziz Turay; all took leave to represent Sierra Leone in their different missions.
I am confident of your proficiency in advancing and strengthening Sierra Leone’s relations with your different missions. Congratulations, and I look forward to your strategic engagements for enhanced mutual beneficial outcomes.
As Coordinator of the @_AfricanUnion Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government on the Reform of the @UN Security Council (C-10) I am very pleased to have heard the announcement by Permanent Representative of United States to the UN and member of President Biden’s Cabinet @USAmbUN that United States now supports 2 Permanent Seats for Africa in the UN Security Council. This is a major and shift from the initial important pronouncement by @POTUS that United States supports permanent representation for Africa.
The announcement follows the historic and impactful debate on UN Security Council reform in the Council, which I chaired during Sierra Leone’s August presidency, focused on - “Addressing the historical injustice and enhancing Africa’s effective representation in the Security Council”.
The announcement confirms that the United States has heard and heeded to important call by agreeing to one of the core demands of the Common African Position. I look forward to further engagement on the question of the veto, to rectify the historical injustice, and I call on the other P5 partners for clear and unequivocal support for Africa and the Common African Position.
10 years ago, the current Minister of Agriculture @hmkpaka and I wrote to our dearest friend and mentor at Harvard, the late Prof @calestous Juma, about implementing an Agriculture Technology solution in Sierra Leone. Today, we are doing just that. Dream it and Make it Happen!
Today is one year since I took an oath of office to serve as Chief Minister of Sierra Leone. It's been a year of learning. I've never seen it as my time, or my turn, or my entitled right, but rather a privilege and honor to serve my country and her people and SLPP. #WeWillDeliver
@dsengeh Your sacrifice, dedication & commitment has not gone unnoticed. We appreciate & will continue supporting your efforts to achieve #PresidentBio development plan. You have approached your role with humility. May this year bring even more opportunities & progress in your leadership
Today, Sierra Leone is delighted to commence a momentous tenure as the President of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August. I firmly believe that during this Presidency, we will significantly advance the urgent need for reforms within the United Nations Security Council.
Our primary focus will be on advocating for reforming of the Security Council to provide equitable, inclusive and permanent representation for Africa. This will help amplify the voices of the 1.2 billion individuals living on the continent. It is our mission to correct this historic injustice that has persisted for 79 years.
As we commence our presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August, today is truly epoch-making and significant in our nation's history.
After over half a century, Sierra Leone will preside over agenda-setting, meetings, and activities of the premier global body for maintaining international peace and security.
Our objective is to foster productive dialogue among parties, based on mutual trust and respect, that result in peaceful and sustainable resolutions of conflict and for collectively tackling other global challenges.
We will also work closely with the P5 and regional groups as we vigorously pursue Security Council reform for the inclusive, equitable, and permanent representation of the voices of Africa's 1.2 billion people. 79 years after the founding of the United Nations, now is the time to right this historical injustice.
