After WWII, the richest faced a 91% tax rate.
A one-time 91% tax on billionaires' pandemic wealth gains would raise enough to cancel all student debt and leave the average billionaire $230 million richer than before the pandemic.
Instead they pay the lowest tax rate in the U.S.
@emotionalvegan No, for me it's one of those things where I've seen the light and cannot go back. My health depends on it too, which is #1. The man in my life is happy to change that, esp after reading "How Not to Die", otherwise I'm really content with friendship.
The “Keep _______ Weird” crowd needs to learn that the way a place gets weird is by having cheap housing so people can work part time or not at all and still make rent
The handful of air-conditioned hotel rooms left in Tacoma yesterday during the 104° temps were all going for $400+, up from $100+ the day before. The rich chilled. The poor roasted. This is the future as long as capitalism reigns.
I'll never get over how politicians can say, with a straight face, that it'll be decades before we get #MedicareForAll when 88% of Democrats and half of Republicans support it.

Dems throughout 2020: "this is the most important election of our lifetimes! democracy is at stake and only we can protect it!"
*Dems win everything*
Dems: "we can't just pass a bill to protect voter rights"
I feel the need to continue wearing my mask outside even though I’m fully vaccinated because the inconvenience of having to wear a mask is more than worth it to have people not think I’m a conservative 😬
Best Upward Bound Memory: Biking 4 days from Canada back to my high school! Going to prom with major farmer's tan from that with my friends! Learning how to camp in the wilderness in Winter too gave me the confidence to travel and take wilderness jobs. #TRIODidThat2021
Helped me adjust to online school and got me organized enough to apply for and win scholarships that have made transferring to get my Bachelor's Degree possible. Thank You TRIO! #TRIODidThat2021
@SocialistBoomer The minimum wage in Australia is currently $19.84 per hour. It increases just about every 6th months too. They also have penalty rates for weekend or evening shifts which can easily jump that up to $30-$45 per hour. Most make significantly more than that too. Also 4 weeks vaca.
