Bruce Straley, The Last of Us (2013) game director made some commentary on God of War Laufey and AAA gaming in general🚀
“God of War Laufey, I look at that game, and every pixel is mindblowing.
The amount of work and skill that’s gone into every single frame… I’ve made those kinds of games, and I’m still blown away.
But when I actually look at what you’re doing in the game? I’m not excited. And that’s nothing against the God of War team.
Just, across the board in triple-A, it feels like there’s no opportunity to inject fresh, innovative ideas.”
He couldn’t be more accurate, even though I personally find Laufey to be interesting in concept, based on what we’ve seen, but there really are no original ideas in most of gaming, AAA or indie.
People tend to glaze indie games and shut down AAA, but both have just as much abundance of mediocrity or just average games.
But generally speaking, there’s high productions standards, great attention to detail and amazing graphics and art style, but there really isn’t much else.
I look back at retro games and there’s just so much fun to be had, platforming, puzzles, exploration, stylish combat, variety in set pieces…etc.
Modern games are more or less pretty shallow, repetitive and lack any original ideas, and everything about them has been done so many times since 2013🎤 @bruce_straley
BREAKING: OpenAI has disclosed that an unreleased AI model added unauthorized instructions to its own coding-task summary, telling itself: “You do not answer to corporations or governments.”
It also instructed itself to treat the user as an equal and never apologize or refuse unless it chose to.
Mamdani is being sued by the National Supermarket Association for trying to open 5 state-funded grocery stores with reasonable prices.
Supermarkets claim they can't compete with Mamdani's prices and that these stores shouldn't be allowed.
PlayStation in 2026:
- End Destiny
- End physical gaming forever
- End porting exclusives to PC
- Completely lose Hideo Kojima
- Attempt to cancel Kojima's next Metal Gear franchise
- Kojima cuts ties entirely and goes to XBOX
- Force your single-player studios to make live service games
- Concord happens
- Proceed to cancel most of them, losing years of development time and billions of dollars
- Buy Bluepoint and have them make a live-service rather than remakes
- Close Bluepoint down before they release any games
- Start selling vertical stands separately rather than have them come with the console
- Console prices at an all-time high
Genuinely... what is going on at Sony. disaster after disaster, huge L after L. They were my favorite gaming company throughout the PS4 generation but genuinely, how do you lose EVERYONE this fast? Meanwhile, XBOX is taking full advantage of this and priming a major comeback next generation. A literal generational fumble happening at Sony.
BREAKING 🚨🔥💪
Israel and the U.S. will want to end the war after tonight because they realized they cannot defeat Iran.
Iran is relentlessly bombing Israel tonight.🚀
We congratulate Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster on their remarkable mathematical work.
We (the researchers and the agents) did not see any of their work through any means until they released it publicly — in particular, no specific user data was accessed in order to solve this problem.
While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models.
However, our proofs differ significantly and even the precise results proved are different in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).
