"Pay-to-play" here means every kid plays—not just rides the bench looking cute in a uniform. They’ll have fun, try different positions, mess up, learn, and get better. That’s the point.
Soccer is a game of decision making, perhaps more than any other sport. We have no plays to memorize, no timeouts…just 90 min of fluidity and no two moments ever alike. Young players MUST learn to think for themselves by making their own decisions (and mistakes). Sitting on sidelines of club games all day we hear far too much yelling/scripting Every. Single. Touch. Not all coaches, but far too many. It’s no wonder so many of these players are handed off to us unable to scan, process, and create. #LetThemPlay
Very simple. Educate Parents. Problem solved. Stop the obsession with Coaches Education and understand technical skills are acquired much earlier than the coaching world believes. Check out how many licensed youth coaches there are in Brazil and other South American countries compared to the America. Realize that in the strong football cultures, little children are learning and practicing specific, deliberate, intentional movements, which turns out to be deep learning disguised as playtime. These kids are falling in love with the ball way before falling in love with playing football. In America and other countries, we force kids to fall in love with playing football, and the ball gets in the way.
Grass roots youth football hurts my brain!
Why do coaches/volunteers not get educated on equal playing time and position rotation?
Should be one of the major messages on any introductory course!

Dear Parents,
Switching your child to a winning team does not make her a winner.
Nor does it raise your status as a parent.
Courage, commitment and kindness have no correlation to a match result.

Many developing football countries often overlook a crucial aspect when it comes to nurturing young talent. The key lies not only in coaching but in fostering a deep bond between a child and the ball. Rather than focusing solely on technical skills, it is vital to spark a child's interest in playing with the ball from a young age. The concept of "Football Starts at Home Mindset" challenges the traditional approach by emphasizing ball mastery as the foundation for skill development and the vital role parents can play. By instilling this practice early on, children can establish neural connections essential for precise ball control.
Creating an emotionally engaging environment through repetitive play enhances deep learning and fosters long-term memory retention. This process transforms deliberate practice into an enjoyable and automated experience, where movements become ingrained in implicit memory. Ultimately, ball mastery transcends conventional training methods, offering a holistic approach that merges physical skill with cognitive development. #FootballSkills #YouthDevelopment #BallMastery #SportsEducation

Perhaps the biggest killers for sports performance?
ANTs!
Automatic Negative Thoughts (emotions & feelings)
Anxious ANTs
Worried ANTs
Doubting ANTs
Frustrated ANTs
Despondent ANTs
Key is accepting that they WILL be a part of your experience playing a sport you care about…
“I WILL have ANTs. That’s ok. I’ll Squash them by ignoring them. I’ll focus on executing my actions irrespective ANTs…
…I’m in charge…I’m in control”
COACH CONFESSIONS:
I have come to believe that most of my sideline communication as a young coach was merely an exhausting release of angst as opposed to pedagogically sound and purposeful communication.

Never forget that one of the main purposes of playing sports is to have fun. If you’re not having fun anymore, take a step back and think about how you can change your attitude, behavior, and environment to regain your love for sports.
Your body language toward missed shots, teammates’ mistakes, being whistled for fouls, getting your butt kicked on a play, being subbed out of the game, how you lose & handle any adversity tells coaches all they need to know. What’s your body language saying about your maturity?!
"Great leaders build cultures. Great leaders develop people. Great leaders have values. Great leaders are role models in life."

Youth sports are supposed to be about fun, building character, getting better & improving fitness. Unfortunately, in many cases, they’re also causing social anxiety/mental health problems for athletes & parents alike. Don’t be so serious & miss the big picture of what it’s about!
