We live in dangerous times, with conflict, insecurity and division in many parts of our world. But health can be a bridge to peace.
The @UNPeacebuilding Fund enables us to work with governments, health workers, and communities to design solutions that are rooted in local realities, through national ownership, inclusion, and partnership.
Happy 20th birthday to the Fund! Thank you for your leadership and your commitment to a healthier, more peaceful world.
When I spent World Refugee Day with International Rescue Committee staff and clients in southeast Ukraine, I saw clearly how four years of war takes its toll.
I met a man who had rebuilt his home after a bombing — only for it to be destroyed again. He is now moving west, looking for safety.
Ukraine is one of many countries where IRC staff and clients are living this reality. There are families in Lebanon who fear they can never return home. Crises continue in Sudan, Afghanistan, and beyond.
The world is seeing more shocks, with fewer shock absorbers to help people survive.
More in my interview with CNN:
AI data centres are hungry for land, water & power.
I’m calling on every major AI company to publicly disclose the full environmental impact of its systems – as a matter of transparency
No more hidden costs.
No more shifting the burden onto those least able to bear it.
It is time to come clean.
If you’re out in London this week, please take a moment to thank our frontline workers who are going above and beyond to keep Londoners safe and cared for during this extreme weather.
Conditions like these place additional pressure on vital services, and I’m incredibly grateful to our transport workers, NHS staff and emergency services for everything they do for our city.
British Heart Foundation’s London to Brighton Bike Ride is an incredible experience - from my home turf to the cheering crowds on the seafront.
Events like this show London and Brighton at their best, and every pound raised will help fund life-saving research.
Opening #ARM2026, BMA Deputy Chair @ERunswickBMA warns against a “factory model” of care. There is no shortcut to medical training and no shortcut to safe patient care.
I recorded this video in southeastern Ukraine, in a village once occupied by Russian forces. Half the people in this village have fled. Some to other parts of Ukraine. Others to Slovakia, Poland, and further afield.
Alongside the visible destruction of schools, churches and homes are the deep but less visible wounds of more than four years of conflict. I spoke with a group of fourteen women — IRC clients taking part in a mental health program. One told me: "When I'm here together with you and with these other women, I can forget that a war is going on around me."
That line stuck with me, a woman asking for just a moment of peace.
Ukraine is one part of a much larger picture. 118 million people are forcibly displaced by conflict and disaster worldwide — from Sudan, from Afghanistan, from Syria, from Venezuela, and beyond.
On #WorldRefugeeDay, the numbers matter. But so does the human story behind each one. Watch below.
London leads by example, matching ambition with action on air pollution, public transport investment and supporting young people.
We’ve been recognised with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2026. This award belongs to the communities, businesses and organisations building a better London for everyone.
I have just arrived in Port-au-Prince on a solidarity visit with the people of Haiti.
The humanitarian situation here is desperate, but there are faint glimmers of hope.
My message to the international community:
Stop looking away.
We must stand with Haiti.
We have far more in common than that which divides us.
10 years on from her murder, Jo Cox’s words matter more than ever.
When division is being sown across our country, we must come together and show that we can build a better future that rejects intolerance and hatred.
London has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of transforming our city for the better.

10 years ago my wife, the mum of our kids & the MP for Batley&Spen was killed by a far right extremist.
At anniversaries I try to be optimistic about the future. But not this time. In the ten years since she was killed we have gone backwards & I fear our democracy is now at risk
Alright this is super cool @Birmingham2027 🔥
