A bruise to the forearm seemed laughable in comparison to other injuries that'd been sustained while on the job. However, Alexa knew deep down that she'd feel the same โ if roles somehow became reversed.
"I'm not made of glass, Em." Her gaze softened an inch.
`` if i hadn't pulled you out of
there iโ god i don't know
what i might have done. ``
she ran her fingers up through
her hair now. she knew she had
made the right decision. even
if alexa was mad at her right now.
Yet another scoff, those chosen words from her wife only serving as more fuel to the fire felt inside.
"No," She refused to concede, intense eye contact achieved. "You weren't the unit chief in that moment. He tried to grab your wife, and you freaked out."
"At least she's making the effort," Teeth scraped the inner corner most of her cheek, that topic still incredibly sensitive even for her.
A hand lifted in order to run through blonde locks, buying herself a couple seconds longer of a reprieve. "Do you think it'll last?"
she groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose in frustration and to help ease the tension in her forehead.
"i didn't mean it like that. i just meant because she's been asking me the same questions." she leaned back slightly, arms crossing. not defensive, just tired.
Alexa found a less than comfortable chair of Emily's office. Her shoulders visibly slumped as hands began to fidget out of irritation.
"I had him right where I wanted himโ" A deliberate pause, previous moments replayed inside her head.
"You had no reason to pull me out."
emily pursed her lips for a
long few moments, a soft
sigh tumbling.
`` i'm sorry lex, i just- i did
what i had to do. ``
it was hard, of course it was,
having to make decisions like
that one. the last thing she
wanted to do was go against
her wife. but she was the unit
chief โฃ
She knows it shouldnโt be a habit encouraged or rewarded. But neither sleep well when the dark haired woman isnโt with them โ and a night or two couldnโt hurt.
โMama is always better at that,โ A slight frown, brain slower with the increasing fatigue felt. โAny requests?โ
A tiny squeak in surprise, her own glass hurriedly placed down after a little sloshing that comes with the unexpected movement.
โIโm going to squish you!โ
`` they'll get over it, or we
can plan a second wedding,
just something small to
appease them. ``
she gently tugged alexa into
her lap now, wine glass placed
down and her arms snuggly
wrapped around her waist.
A nod more for herself than the other, as though trying her damnedest to believe the words she hears.
However, the guilt has been eating away at her slowly but surely. A pit felt in her stomach ever since their secret came to light.
โTheyโll move on from it. . . I hope.โ
`` i don't think it was a bad
thing baby, i mean neither
of us wanted a wedding to
begin with. ``
she shifted a little to face
the younger woman a
little more.
`` we did this the way that
made us happy. that's what
matters. ``
Eyes are quick to avoid the other, an uncomfortable sense of vulnerability creeping up from deep within.
โEloping,โ She states plainly, teeth dragging over her bottom lip. โWas that wrong?โ
A scoff with that comment being something taken to the heart โ perhaps even offending her a little.
โIโm such a terrible sister for checking on your wellbeing.โ An eye roll, the tender moment seemingly ruined before it has even begun.
โGod forbid, right?โ
the softness in her gaze quickly faltered at alexa's question, "you sound like mom." she rolled her eyes, groaning as she rubbed at her forehead.
"i ate early this morning i think? i don't know, there was a pop tart involved."
she leaned back, stretching her arms โ
The air audibly forced from her lungs when an unexpected weight finds her abdomen.
โOlivia,โ She visibly winces. โI put you to bed an hour ago.โ
