King's College Hospital in London has opened a rooftop garden for critical care patients. Its first patient, a 29-year-old woman dependent on feeding tubes, said the outdoor space gave her 'a real boost to keep on going
that’s the question isn’t it. what WILL she do? there are no youth clubs for her to attend. food, cinema tickets, any sort of third space activity is all too expensive. their parents are underpaid, saturday jobs don’t exist any more, children have truly been abandoned by the govt
All this time I thought she was just “not into smart stuff.” But she’s been hiding it, memorizing routes, pretending to read menus by guessing from pictures, and smiling through everything. That night I cried in the bathroom. Now I read things out loud for her, and we practice together slowly. She’s the strongest, kindest person. Beauty? Yeah. But her heart is on another level. Don’t assume. Love the person, not the image.
