We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.
I take exception to calling the personal items deposited along the Guadalupe River, debris.
They represent lives lost.
They represent lives loved.

My colleague Aaron Parsley and his family were swept away in their home by the Guadalupe River.
His harrowing story and their loss are described in one of the most important pieces @TexasMonthly has ever published.

The only surviving item known to have been owned by Eleanor of Aquitaine. This rock crystal vase, which is on display in the Louvre in Paris, belonged to her grandfather, William IX of Aquitaine. On inheriting it, Eleanor gave it to her first husband, Louis VII of France as a wedding present in 1137 and he, in turn, gave it to Abbot Suger, one of his leading advisers.
It’s an astounding survival and gives just a small hint of the opulent material culture of the world that Eleanor, Queen of both France and England, inhabited.

06. Remember that reading is fun. There’s a reason books were the chief entertainment for American pioneers and British coal-miners of the nineteenth century. We once had a massively literate working-class, and I believe we could revive a culture of reading for pleasure.

I just heard a Republican talking about people who supposedly "sit at home and collect Medicaid." What a strange thing to say. It's not a cash welfare program. There's nothing to collect. It's simply a way for the poor and disabled to access health care, an insurance plan.
An unforgettable moment with @kateemccaffrey at #HeverCastle. Holding #AnneBoleyn’s Books of Hours-signed, inscribed, & bearing her DNA-never gets old. They are a redolent portal into Anne’s world, faith, & legacy. We filmed content especially for YOU-stay tuned to Hever’s IG 💖
Before she became Elizabeth I, Elizabeth Tudor was surrounded by scandal, suspicion and deadly intrigue. In today's podcast, @sixteenthCgirl and Dr. @NicolaTallis trace Elizabeth’s incredible transformation—from disgraced daughter to Queen of England: https://t.co/YobjebsaWF
Speaking of #AnneBoleyn (not surprising for me!), did you know she appears in #Shakespeare?
Yes, in one of his late plays, Henry VIII. Anne doesn’t say much, mostly protesting she doesn’t want to be queen. People who see her crowned are more talkative.
Sophie Bacchus-Waterman joins us to discuss Anne Boleyn and the women around her.
We usually think of Anne surrounded by men. But she was surrounded by women as well.

There’s a great story in today’s Times on the psychological benefits of looking at art. You and I, dear art lovers, know this already!
But the story is interesting because it gives a scientific context to more ancient beliefs about why we make art.
