We were able to research a set of five Aurochs (Bos Pr.) skulls from the Upper-Rhine Valley. Together with our coop. partners from the Univ. of Dublin we seek to get a better understanding of the morphology and genetics of this animal

We are pleased to inform about a new collaboration with the Smurfit Institute of Genetics at the University of Dublin. Prof. Dan Bradley now intends to extract aDNA from 3 samples of pleistocene aurochs from Germany provided by the Auerrind project. #europeanrewildingnetwork

Luca, one of the founder-breed bulls of the project. He is a pure Maremmana primitivo and father of the two young cows currently grazing in Frankenstein. He is of great size (1,70m) and particularly dark.

Our Auerrindproject herd in Frankenstein, currently consisting out of three animals, a Tauroscow (Maremmana cross) as well as two F1 (Maremmana x Sayaguesa) from 2020. they are grazing in a 25ha forest grazing site.

Part of the research efforts of the Auerrindproject is to compare and study cranial morphology of both Bos primigenius and Bos taurus as well as other wild Bovini. A first report is planned to be published in 2022. So stay tuned and support us in our efforts
