Some actually rich people like flashy possessions, but “consumer luxury” definitely relies on a lot of people over-extending themselves to try and emulate their idea of “rich”. Houses usually give it away though - even a low-key rich person still has a very nice house.

@eyeslasho Yes, although the form depends on your region and social circle. People still like nice cars, houses, boats, etc. Exotic travel on social media appeals to a different / younger crowd.

@Eric_Erins @Noahpinion It’s not a marriage or a mortgage, the policies are for one year terms. Yes, I did get angry when my insurance company made unreasonable demands to keep my policy, but the rational side of my brain knew they weren’t obligated to continue to insure my property.

Apparently the population is 55,000. So that would be a $55 billion purchase price. Seems reasonable. We could probably trim it down a bit by putting a minimum age on the payment. Hard to imagine many people would turn down that offer.
