Food safety is key to better health, stronger livelihoods, and brighter futures.
This #WorldFoodSafetyDay, we asked some of our colleagues what food safety means.
Here is what they had to say👇
#FoodSafetyDAY
🍽️ World Food Safety Day 2026 🍽️
Safe food is not only a health priority, it is a foundation for resilient communities, stable markets, and sustainable development.
On this World Food Safety Day, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) IGAD highlights the importance of strengthening food systems safety and resilience across the region, where climate variability, drought, and supply chain disruptions continue to affect food availability and quality.
Through its regional efforts on food security, climate resilience, and early warning systems, IGAD supports Member States in improving preparedness and response to food safety risks by:
Strengthening early warning and climate information services for agriculture
Supporting resilient and climate-smart food systems
Enhancing regional coordination on food security and safety monitoring
Promoting sustainable agricultural practices to reduce contamination risks
In a region where food systems are deeply interconnected, ensuring food safety means investing in prevention, cooperation, and science-based decision-making.
🌍 Safe food today for a healthier, more resilient tomorrow.

4 days to #AfricaDay
Africa’s journey has evolved from the liberation struggles of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) to the broader vision of integration, development, and prosperity under the African Union(AU).
While the OAU focused on ending colonialism and apartheid, today’s African Union is driving continental priorities including #trade, #infrastructure, #peacebuilding, #digitaltransformation, #health, and #youthempowerment under #Agenda2063.
As we countdown to #AfricaDay under the theme “63 Years of Unity, Integration and Development,” we celebrate how Africa continues to build on its foundations to shape The Africa We Want.

Resilience programs don’t just transform lives—they reduce the need for aid altogether.
The UN warns large parts of South Sudan are on the brink of famine, with more than 73,000 people facing catastrophic hunger, driven by conflict, displacement and economic decline.
