What I’m learning from an IndieGoGo failing audiobook campaign (with three days left).
1. Never start a campaign during a mercury retrograde period.
2. Scams. I had people pledging thousands of dollars and pulling the deposits days later—all
scammers. IndieGoGo doesn’t police or enforce this. My emails were flooded with solicitations.
3. Crowdfunding is really just pre-sales for those that have the following. I don’t.
4. I did everything myself so I’m not a creator, I’m a crowdfund manager. Take gun; insert in mouth.
5. I’m too old to create media and manage a campaign. I like the idea of making videos but the process had to be pieced out and I hate Fiver and Upstart (Upset).
This just in 🚨[breaking]
Every time I post one of these I receive a community note telling me it’s total bullshit.
A community note to the community note: I don’t post these because I believe they are true, I post them as ideas for writing fiction and ttrpg scenarios.
Thank you
A 91-year-old streamer became a social media star after beating a horror game without any guides
Chinese gamer Yang Binglin, known as Game Grandpa, completed Resident Evil Requiem without using a single walkthrough. He streamed the entire playthrough and solved everything on his own.
To keep track of details, he wrote everything down in a regular notebook. That’s how he worked through puzzles and navigated the game.
He was previously listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest gaming streamer. Before retirement, he worked as an engineer and only started gaming after 1996.
Bill Maher: “During most primetime nights, less than 1% of the country is watching Fox News, CNN, and MS Now, combined… A guy on TikTok pressure washing his driveway gets bigger ratings.”
“76% of Americans watch less than 1 hour of any cable news in a month.”
Strange how pulp—something that wasn’t meant to last—has had such a lasting effect.
I think it was the fact that they really tapped into the archetypal and mythical world—and momentum. Writing at that blitzkrieg speed, tapping into the stream of consciousness. Dungeons and Dragons was born of pulp (and LOTR 😉).
