Why the Backlash was Worth It

In the past 24 hours, I received a lot of criticism. But I also received a lot of support.

What mattered most to me, though, were the people reaching out privately asking for help.

There is a lot of debate online about messaging around drugs. Some believe the only message should be “Don’t do drugs. Don’t start.”

Prevention is important. Of course it is. But harm reduction is also evidence based medicine. It is an approach used by public health systems around the world because it has been shown to reduce infections, reduce overdoses, and increase the likelihood that people eventually seek treatment and recovery.

Meeting people where they are is NOT normalization.

And in the past 24 hours, people reached out because they felt safe enough to ask for help. For me, that matters more than winning an argument online.

At the end of the day may nagawa tayo as a friend or someone na concern sa kanila. Naging mabuti tayong tao. Choice pa rin nila kung ano gagawin nila. We cant control them, but we can control ourselves, our action.

Offer alternative way to cope. In that sense di ka nagkulang bilang kaibigan at tao. Nasa sa kanya kung itatake nya yung advices mo.Kung tuloy pa rin sya, be present.Kalimitan sa nalululong feeling nila alone sila sa buhay. So be present.Remind him the consequences.
