Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has sacked all Fulani district heads, known as Ardos, replacing them with indigenous Nupe Chiefs in a historic move aimed at curbing kidnapping, violence, and terrorism. The decision effectively ends centuries of Fulani domination over indigenous people in the state, marking a significant shift in the region's political and traditional landscape.

The governor cited the rising cases of kidnapping, land grabbing, destruction of farmlands, and the invitation by local Fulani of other Fulani from outside the country to help them in sustained conflicts with indigenous people as reasons for the decision. He has replaced them with village chiefs or re-designated roles such as Hakimi to strengthen local indigenous authority and improve security in the state.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang's apology to Ndi Igbo for Plateau’s role in the Nigerian-Biafran War, is a significant and unusual public acknowledgement.

He said Plateau people were “deceived” into fighting and now regret their involvement. I believe other neighbors were also deceived.
Recognising the immense contributions of Igbo residents to Plateau State’s economic development and promising fairness in addressing properties acquired after the war is also a fair start - but it is a known fact that Igbos contribute immensely to every state's economic development in Nigeria.

His acknowledgement matters because it challenges the long-standing culture of silence surrounding the Civil War. Nigeria cannot genuinely heal from a history it continually refuses to confront.
By acknowledging that ordinary communities may have been manipulated into fighting one another, the governor’s statement opens an important door to truth-telling, national reflection and a deeper examination of the political forces that turned neighbours against one another.

The reference to confiscated or disputed properties is especially important – ‘’the abandoned property’’ is an unforgettable loss that must be addressed to relieve the pain it bears.
Reconciliation cannot be built on words alone. It must include restitution, compensation and the restoration of legitimate rights wherever injustice can still be repaired.
This acknowledgement also creates an opportunity for other governments, institutions and communities to examine their own actions during and after the war. If handled honestly, this moment could encourage a broader national conversation about memory, responsibility, accountability and justice. This is the sort of Movement Ohanaeze Ndigbo should champion!

But the statement must also be examined critically.
The governor did not clearly identify who deceived the Plateau people, what falsehoods were used, or what Plateau’s specific role in the war involved.
The phrase “we were deceived” open the door to truth, but it can also soften responsibility if it is not followed by a fuller and more honest historical account.
Who deceived the Plateau people?
What stories were they told?
What role did political and military interests play?
What became of the homes, businesses and properties taken from Igbo families during and after the war?
These are questions that must not be buried beneath the apology.

The political context also matters. The apology was delivered during a meeting in which Igbo leaders endorsed Governor Mutfwang for a second term in 2027.
That does not automatically invalidate the apology, but it means its sincerity must be judged by what follows: a transparent property-review process, documented compensation, the preservation of historical truth and the lasting protection of Igbo residents and their legitimate rights.

In my conscious opinion, the apology is historically meaningful, but it must become more than a ceremonial statement made close to an election.
It should mark the beginning of a serious process of truth, accountability and material justice. Again, this is the sort of project Ohanaeze Ndigbo should champion.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s apology is significant, not because words can undo the suffering of the Nigerian–Biafran War, but because healing begins when silence is broken and truth is acknowledged.
However, reconciliation cannot end with the phrase, “We were deceived.”
An apology becomes meaningful only when it is followed by truth, restitution and justice.

We cannot continue asking wounded people to “move forward” while refusing to confront what wounded them. You acknowledge the people who were wounded and repair what can still be repaired.

A conscious nation examines its history and learn from it, not bury it. Nigeria buried theirs when they scrapped history studies in schools.

IPOB Vows Not to Abandon Nnamdi Kanu, Emphasizes Institutionalizing Biafra Struggle

Mazi Austin Agbanyim, IPOB Europe Representative and Member of the Directorate of State (DOS), has assured members that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) remains committed to the release of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and will not abandon him “in the hands of the enemies.”

Speaking to delegates from over 45 IPOB UK zones at the just-concluded IPOB UK 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and City Evangelism in West Brom, Birmingham, Agbanyim stressed the need for the movement to rise above emotions and personal loyalty when decisions conflict with its core roadmap.

“When we saw that some of the messages coming from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through his lawyers were against the IPOB Roadmap, we said no,” he stated. “We must remove emotions. We must not go wrong because our leader is going wrong.”

Agbanyim reiterated IPOB’s determination to institutionalize the Biafra struggle so that it cannot be held hostage whenever any individual leader is incapacitated or unreachable.

The event combined organizational review with grassroots outreach activities across Birmingham as part of IPOB UK’s 2026 activities.

They’re running mad because they believed their deception would endure indefinitely while exploiting the struggle and numerous dedicated & sincere IPOB members who came to restore Biafra but now they appear foolish in their behavior.

I informed them that the moment we stop protecting and defending him because some of us know too much about the struggle and what transpires within these five years , no amount of paid public relations in this world can fix their chaos.

We supported, encouraged, and elevated him for more than a decade, but what we received in return was treachery, deceit, falsehoods, blackmail and extortion. Until him and others realizes that there are individuals in this struggle who gave him the wings to soar and the least he can do for them is to advocate for the Biafra struggle with complete honesty, avoiding lies, blackmail, and corruption, and importantly, not to support those who have abducted and murdered our people whom we came and promised to liberate from the contraption called Nigeria .

Paid PR won’t save them rather it will destroy them the more because they don’t have the intelligence and strategy to counter what is coming against them. Let’s watch and see.

“THEY ARE NIGERIANS, GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO REPENT” – But IPOB/ESN Are Shot on Sight. (This Is the Bias That Will Destroy the South East.)

The Statement That Says It All

On June 14, 2026, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) made a statement that should chill every South Easterner to the bone:

“Bandits: They are Nigerians. It is better to give them a chance to repent than killing them.”

Let that sink in.

Bandits: men who have massacred villages, kidnapped schoolchildren for ransom, raped women in broad daylight, and turned entire communities in the North-West into ghost towns are Nigerians deserving of a second chance.

But what about IPOB members? What about ESN operatives? What about any young Igbo man who raises a flag or organizes for self-defense?

They are not given a chance to repent. They are not called “Nigerians.” They are declared terrorists, proscribed, hunted, extrajudicially killed, and their bodies dumped in forests.

This is not counter-insurgency. This is ethnic bias dressed in uniform.

The Bandits’ Body Count

Let us not forget what these “Nigerians who deserve a chance” have done:

· Kuriga, Kaduna (March 2024): Over 280 schoolchildren kidnapped. Many still missing.
· Gidan Bakuso, Sokoto (June 2024): Over 50 villagers killed, homes burned.
· Tegina, Niger (2021): Over 150 children abducted from Islamic school.
· Birnin Gwari, Kaduna (2022-2025): Constant attacks, over 1,000 civilians killed.
· Zamfara (2021): Over 200 students taken from Government Science College, Kagara.

And yet, the CDS says: “They are Nigerians. Give them a chance.”

The Dangerous Implications for the South East

If the military’s official posture is to negotiate with and rehabilitate bandits while annihilating IPOB/ESN, then the conclusion is inescapable:

The Nigerian state does not see the South East as part of Nigeria deserving of the same “chance” given to northern bandits.

What happens when these “repentant” bandits, now armed and trained under federal amnesty, are deployed or drift into the South East? The same military that gave them a chance will now call them “vigilantes” or “civilian JTF” and they will be authorized to hunt our people.

We have seen this playbook before. Cattle routes became grazing routes. Grazing routes became armed herder militias. Armed herder militias now get amnesty. And the South East is left unprotected.

Where is his chance to repent? Where is his “they are Nigerian” recognition?

Your bias is not just hypocritical. It is genocidal in its implications. You are telling the North: we will forgive your killers. And you are telling the South East: we will not forgive your defenders.

The CDS did not accidentally say bandits deserve a chance. He spoke the official position of a state that has always seen northern violence as “manageable” and eastern self-defense as “terrorism.”

They will give bandits uniforms, starter packs, and new names: repentant.

They will give our sons bullets, body bags, and new names: unknown gunmen.

This is the bias. This is the double standard. And if we do not wake up, this is how we will die , one propaganda headline at a time.

The Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (ALESP) published on May 29, 2026, in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo, the "*MOTION OF APPLAUSE*", No. 186, of 2026, to the people of Biafra for the commemoration of the *Day of the Heroes and Heroines of Biafra*, celebrated on May 30, as a symbol of resistance.

This historical link reinforces the humanitarian connection between Brazilians and Biafrans. It is an act that recognizes the importance of the memory of Biafra on Brazilian soil and also the strengthening of democracy, justice, and human rights.

The motion was proposed by State Representative Eduardo Suplicy and was recognized and approved by the other representatives of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (ALESP).

This is a fundamental step to ensure that memory is never again invisible in São Paulo, recognized by the State of São Paulo through ALESP, the largest legislative body in Brazil.
