"The theme of our discussion is highly relevant, as not only policymakers but every citizen is grappling with the impacts of climate change in these unprecedented times. Climate change is a reality and particularly affects younger generations, who will face its consequences most acutely.

Lahore, as the largest mega urban centre in Punjab and a key policy-making hub, is also at significant risk of climate disasters. The increasing shift from rural to urban areas exacerbates this risk. Many villages in the province have been submerged due to recent monsoon rains.

Efforts such as piloting well-recharging initiatives in Lahore have proven effective and cost-efficient. In urban areas, addressing behavioural issues and leveraging government incentives can make a difference. The excessive concrete development has reduced permeable surfaces necessary for water seepage into the aquifer. To address this, the government is considering tax rebates for green roof initiatives and other similar measures.
