Left unsaid is the fact that the Defence Minister has to sign off on ADF personnel participating in US operations. Third country deployments require Ministerial sign-off.

I issued an FOI seeking Ministerial sign off related documents which was refused with a statement that Defence neither affirmed or denied the existence of documents.

The Admiral’s evidence strongly indicates that Ministerial directives should have been issued for the participation of Australian defence personnel in the illegal US/Israel war on Iran.

The Admiral said the instructions tell personnel what they can and can’t do. So why is there a problem in releasing those authorities if they are consistent with Government statements from time to time
and more broadly with our obligations under international law?

@DavidShoebridge, you absolute legend 💚⚖️👨🏼‍⚖️. While the rest of us are out here doom-scrolling, you’re in Senate Estimates doing the Lord’s work: staring down suit-wearing bureaucrats and asking the only question that matters - “How Much?”

And the answer? Hundreds of thousands from the merchants of boom. Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Thales, Leidos the same fine upstanding companies that sell the hardware for overseas adventures, now generously sponsoring the memorial to the people those adventures turned into statistics.

It’s like Phillip Morris sponsoring a lung cancer ward ribbon-cutting. Or McDonald’s funding an obesity clinic while handing out free Big Macs at the door. “Thanks for the body count, mates here’s a plaque and some podcast money. Very tasteful!”

Nothing says “Lest We Forget” quite like having the war profiteers’ logos plastered across the very place we pretend to honour the fallen. The irony is so thick you could armour-plate it and sell it back to the ADF at a 400% markup.

Keep making them squirm, David. Someone has to remind these death-tech cosplay execs that blood money doesn’t wash off with a nice sponsorship deal and a tax deduction.

The Australian War Memorial isn’t a charity it’s apparently a subsidiary. And we’re all just living in the sponsor’s edition.
