@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts And u can think Phoom is better, u can. I genuinely have no issue with u having that opinion. I just don’t think that conclusion is true. So let’s just end it here
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts If an actor isn’t given the opportunity to show a certain range or side of their ability through the character, how can u use the absence of that range as evidence that they’re less capable than someone whose role actually required them to show it?
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts but i never said the actor with the heavier role is automatically better that’s literally the opposite of my point. A complex role can give an actor more opportunities to show range, but that doesn’t automatically make them a better actor.
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts the word “better” doesn’t trigger me i just disagree with the conclusion I agree Phoom was a perfect fit for Chita & I also think Smart was a perfect fit for Jin. But “Phoom did better in this role” and “Phoom is a better actor than Smart” are two completely different statements
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts Award shows compare two performances, sure. That still doesn’t prove that one actor is better overall just because their particular role gave them more to work with. U’re using the role itself as evidence of the actor’s superiority, and that’s exactly what I’m disagreeing with.
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts But award shows judging different performances doesn’t mean the roles have to have the same range I’m saying u can compare performances, but u can’t use one actor having a much more demanding/range-heavy role as proof that he’s inherently a better actor.
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts If Smart portrayed Jin well, then he’s a good actor for that role. That’s literally an actor’s job—to portray the character they’re given well. U can’t expect him to show a range that the character simply didn’t require.
@OfoegbuRos1916@dumb_doughnuts Then how can u say he’s not a better actor when he literally did the job he was given? I mean, come on... Do I really have to go over Chita vs Jin again when I’ve already explained this whole time why I think it’s unfair to compare them like that? ++
