ASF’s 2nd Vox Libera Salon -‘Boys & Men in the Modern World’-on 16 May was a fantastic night with excellent company, conversation, and food. Thank you to everyone who attended and to our venue host for opening her home to us. Many thanks to Kellie & @JasonStrecker@DavidMaywald
Sall Grover’s legal battle has shed light on the legacy that BAD legislation leaves while politicians are sleeping.
Standing up for something as fundamental as protected female spaces should not be so hard, take so long, or cost so much. But here we are.

During National Reconciliation Week, when it is widely implied in schools and society that Australian culture is responsible for high levels of violence and separation in Aboriginal communities @Anthonywodillon brings much needed perspective

@Anthonywodillon argues: Australia's failure to address Indigenous disadvantage stems from policies that prioritize romanticized cultural views over practical needs like jobs, housing and education. He calls for a unified approach using proven solutions.
The latest episode of The Other Side dropped yesterday evening. Most of this was devoted to the issues affecting men and boys. During this episode, David Maywald speaks with Damian Coory and Bettina Arndt about boys' education, men's health, relationships, suicide reduction, and how we can effectively lobby for positive change...
Here's the full episode: https://t.co/x0WFPdGYws
There is some very good news here: millions of men and women of goodwill are speaking up for men and boys; we are having sensible conversations; acknowledging the evidence (which has been around for decades); and we have already seen the early stages of turning this around...
Since International Men's Day last year on the 19th of November, there have been almost thirty positive developments for men and boys in Australia. Examples include:
- The first federal inquiry into the education of boys and young men in 24 years, with bipartisan support, and you can make a submission until the 12th of June:
https://t.co/vkCKZxlBOe
- Victoria has appointed a world-first Minister for Men and Boys.
- The Nationals are holding a series of forums to listen to Men, Boys, and Fathers. This is being led by their newly installed Shadow Special Envoy for Men and Boys (Llew O'Brien).
- There are completely new Parliamentary Friends groups on men's health and wellbeing and masculinity, in South Australia, ACT, and nationally.
- We have leaders such as Kellie Sloane, Maryka Groenewald, Sarah Game, Matt Canavan, Mark Parton, and Julian Leeser who are celebrating masculinity and striving to uplift boys, young men, and men of all backgrounds/ages...
This is how sensible men and women of goodwill work together, for the benefit of our precious next generation. It is happening, and we are starting to get this done. Get onboard, and contribute to this positive change.
Episode 68: Why are some governments more effective than others
An educational lecture given by @frijterspaul
In this engaging lecture, Paul Frijters dives into two radically different models of governance: the elite-driven Whitehall system of the UK versus the decentralized, trust-based system of the Netherlands. Through interactive student discussion, real-world policy examples, and comparative insights, this session challenges how you can think about leadership, trust, and social cohesion.

Happy International Boys Day to all of our precious and gorgeous boys: you're awesome and we love you... This is an annual celebration on the 16th of May each year. International Boys Day was created to focus attention on boys’ wellbeing, education, mental health, development, and the challenges that boys face globally.
Boys Day (as it's colloquially known) or International Day of the Boy Child (as it's formally known) was founded by Jerome Teelucksingh from Trinidad and Tobago, with the inaugural observance held on 16 May 2018.
Similar to International Men's Day (which was first observed on 19 November 1999), International Boys Day is not officially recognised by the United Nations, but it is increasingly being marked internationally by an ever-expanding number of groups and non-profits and individuals and businesses and governments.
Check out the website, which has great suggestions for activities to do with the boys in your life, posters to celebrate Boys Day, and a bunch of other resources:

There have been at least two dozen positive developments for men and boys in Australia, during the last six months. These include several important appointments at state and federal level, the world-first Minister for Men and Boys in Victoria, a national inquiry into education for boys and young men (for the first time in 24 years), and the establishment of completely new forums/groups that focus on male wellbeing at both state and federal level.
Importantly, these span every state, territory, and the federal level. And these two dozen advances also span every political party (except the Greens) from Labor, Liberal, Nationals, One Nation, small parties and independents... I was heartened to see the ACT Greens emphasise the experiences of male victims, last week in CityNews coverage of Mark Parton's support for men's health and wellbeing.
I accept that you could point to one or two of these developments with scepticism, or even cynicism. But that negativity completely fades away when looking at these two dozen important steps forward in totality... Ordinary people have been speaking up for a couple of years, we want fairness and opportunity to be spread across society, we're tired of elites sending money and attention to their pet causes.
Genuine gender equality is about a lot more than shaping education systems for girls, delivering unearned economic empowerment for some women, and beating innocent men around the head with a big bat called "violence against women"... Females face disparities, males face disparities. People are seeing through the old tired narratives, and they have lived experience of the issues faced by boys and men.
It's time to capitalise on the remarkable advances for men and boys during the last six months, by taking practical concrete actions that solidify this progress... Get on board.
International Boys Day is being celebrated on Saturday 16 May. Australians for Science and Freedom are holding an event on boys and young men, in the Inner West of Sydney. David Maywald and Jason Strecker will be leading the discussion, and are keen hear from other ASF Members who attend:

Across Australia, boys and young men are navigating one of the most complex transitions in modern history. Educational outcomes for boys are declining, male participation in university is falling, trades and technical pathways are undervalued, housing is increasingly out-of-reach for young families, and male wellbeing (from mental health to suicide rates) demands urgent attention...
Yet beneath the noise and polarisation, there's a quieter truth: most young men want to contribute, build families, learn skills, and serve their communities. Research increasingly shows that their views are complex and often much more balanced than public narratives suggest (for example, see the high-quality YouGov survey from October 2025 on masculinity and young men).
This Vox Libera salon and dinner is an opportunity for thoughtful Australians to gather, share a meal, and engage in a candid, constructive conversation about the future of boys and young men in our country.
Topics will include:
• Education pathways for boys and young men
• Trades, technology and meaningful work
• Relationships, family formation, and faith
• Housing affordability and economic independence
• Mentorship, fatherhood and male wellbeing
The evening will be facilitated by:
Jason Strecker — Head of Mathematics, educator and contributor to The Spectator and Brownstone Institute. Jason brings deep experience in education reform, wellbeing metrics, and the cultural forces shaping young people.
David Maywald — Board director, former Investment Manager, and author of The Relentless War on Masculinity. David advocates for balanced policies that support boys and men while strengthening families and society.
This ASF Members-only event, at a private home in Sydney’s Inner West, is an opportunity for thoughtful Australians to gather, share a pot-luck (“bring a plate”) meal, and engage in a candid, constructive conversation about the future of boys and young men in our country...
Take this opportunity to join Australians for Science and Freedom as a Member, and engage in the conversation on Saturday evening:
