🦠 Rift Valley fever (RVF) causes miscarriages in livestock, high newborn mortality, and can spill over to humans.
🐀Using a rat model, we found maternal vaccination completely protects offspring from RVF.

@YianniD_LGR Likely some boils down to footwork as well (can’t be out of position to capitalize). I’m thinking about outside step to the corner reshots in particular.

I’m excited to announce that our manuscript entitled “Oropouche virus infects human trophoblasts and placenta explants “ has been published by Nature Communications!! @natcomms@natureportfolio
My heart breaks for the prospective students whose dream schools halted admissions. I can only offer this, during my time at UNC, those who had spent time in tech positions/industry were better prepared for grad school than those (like myself) who jumped right in.
Every year my PI, @RogueRifter gives a “State of the Lab” address. We celebrate our successes, share our new goals, and look back at all of the fun times we’ve had this year.
Doing a PhD is hard but, people like this make it easy! #SOTL
We have a new preprint on #Oropouche virus, the emerging #bunyavirus circulating in South America. In work with the #prototype BeAn19991 strain, we found primary neurons and microglia to be highly permissive to infection.

Oropouche virus. Very #demure. Very #mindful.
Until it spreads, kills healthy adults, and causes fetal infection and death.
Re-upping this thread 🧵 below from 2 years ago, as well as links to the relevant #Oropouche literature #bunyavirus#lovevirology
@fablabpitt and I were part of this work, which suggests that the immunity from prior H1N1 infection could protect against bovine H5N1 (and other H5N1).
The lab’s first paper is out and it’s Editor’s pick! Timely with the current #Oropouche#virus outbreak. Proud of Krista Gunter for taking on the lab’s #OROV projects 🦠 https://t.co/SkGYF6KwSd
