Austin Mutual Aid just held a press conference to discuss the impacts a new Supreme Court ruling will have on the unhoused population in Austin. It allows cities to put a ban on outdoor sleeping. One woman who has personal experience being unhoused shared her story.
So why does the Austin police frat keep confronting City Council about staffing if they can't do anything else about it?
The Austin police frat wants even more pay & even less oversight in the next police contract.
So they scare people into badgering council to this end.

On top of that, all the police hired from the $ in the 1994 crime bill started reaching retirement.
Add on the cops that quit during the pandemic (like many jobs) & all the folks cops run out of the job w/ their awful culture & it means lots of cops leaving & fewer joining.

#ATXCouncil already funds:
- the highest big city police salaries in Texas,
- 100s of vacant positions,
- $10s of K in bonuses for new recruits &
- all the cadet classes the academy can run.
But police *still* struggle to recruit & not just in Austin but all over.

To all the people scared by Austin police frat fear-mongering about staffing:
1. There's nothing more #ATXCouncil can give police to fill vacancies & the police frat knows this - they just want more $ & impunity.
2. Austin officials can help, but not how you've been told.

I've had a lot of people getting in touch about losing their jobs for speaking up about Palestine.
If you're being targeted, reach out and I will connect you to movement lawyers.

🧵This morning we hosted a meeting outside of @SalArmyAustin. Dozens of shelter residents stopped by to share their anger and worries.
Salvation Army is the only downtown shelter offering beds to single women. The closure is reckless and will be devastating.
We will be coordinating closely with our friends at Central Florida Mutual Aid. Please support their Hurricane Ian efforts if you are able: https://t.co/utXDoL0wyb
So, we've now sold 14 of my '
