Black Ocean series, @authorjsmorin without a doubt.
Fun, pulpy, and chock full of loveable rogues who quickly became cherished friends. LBTQ+ friendly, and has somethin to say about faith too.
Got me through some hard weeks at my job, Morin and Naramore are blessings.
@Silirrion Same. I think I rewatched everything during C. And I have no problem with dated sci-fi in general. There's probably a word with a dizzying arrangement of "retro" and "futurism" that describe an outdated look ahead into a still-advanced future. (retro-pre-post-futurism?)
@Silirrion I think you see the difference more in a show like Babylon 5. You have great alien prosthetics and makeup. Then you get external shots and space battles, and you're suddenly watching a 90s videogame.
@Silirrion I think the puppets and other practical effects help shows look less dated as they age. Digital effects all come with a plaque that states the year they were made.
@chesscom@Kasparov63 It will always be unsatisfying when a dominant champion chooses to vacate a title rather than have it wrested away. It doesn't mean that the winner won't be world champion; there will just be a dissonance between that champion and the (perceived) best player in the world.
@MikeStackpole Better to assemble a character in situ out of stray bits of plot, offhand comments, and extrapolations of a past that could have created them to be the person you need for the story.
