Ann Arbor-area peeps - have you visited the newly renovated children's section at Schuler Books in Westgate? They have supported me and are known for promoting local authors. Hope you can drop in to support this local treasure!

Hey friends! Come out and see me at this year's Artalicious in downtown Adrian! I'll be set up at the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators table Sunday, September 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hope to see you there🙂🪄

I'm scheduling middle school writing workshops for this fall. If you or someone you know is interested learning more about in my 45-minute Zoom workshop for their students, visit https://t.co/Dszpqgh1dR🪄
I have gone to this conference & found it valuable. I won't be able to make it this year; we're going to be in Ireland to visit my daughter. The agent pitch sessions are great. If you are looking to learn more about writing, publishing, and meet other writers, check it out!
One goal with my short story workshops is to inspire youth to explore their own familial & community stories. It's exciting to see studies linking storytelling to fostering resilience in children, building beliefs around a child's capacity to to survive and thrive thru hardship.
Sharing this fundraising event for the Children's Literacy Network whose mission is to "design and implement literacy-based programs to provide equitable opportunities for children to develop a love of reading and books" here in Washtenaw. Love this🤩

When I feel stuck on what direction to take a story, I find it helps to give my mind a rest...take walks, rest, get out in nature and free my mind. How do you get "unstuck"?
These wonderful photos were sent to me by my new friends at Gilbert and Ivy Bookstore of my author talk last month. I'm grateful for Kimm and Max Mayer and Brian Dobbie of Gilbert and Ivy, my Kalamazoo cousins Johnny, Travis and Gabrielle and everyone who came out🪄😍
On Saturday night, Steve and I went to Mineapolois to celebrate being a finalist for “best YA Fiction” at the Midwest Book Awards. I was awarded the silver seal for YA Fiction and the gold seal for best Cover Design - yahoo Jenny Zemanek! Thanks to everyone who's supported me🥰
Congrats, Jenny, for the book cover you designed for Middle School is No Place for Magic being selected as a finalist in the Midwest Book Awards!
"I’m both thrilled and honored to have this cover included among the other finalists and wish the best of luck to all!" JENNY ZEMANEK
Super excited to participate in Burg Days next week! If you're in the Kzoo area, come out and see me, and bring a friend or two. I'll be talking about my 20-year writing journey. We may even do a magic trick together🪄
One Week Away! If you live in the Kalamazoo area, come out and see me June 19th. I have an author visit scheduled in the adorable town of Vicksburg. Support a lovely locally-owned bookstore, Gilbert and Ivy. There are several nice restaurants in town, as well😍🪄
Thank you to Rachel Pastiva and the Ann Arbor Book Society for including my book award announcement in last week's newsletter! I admire the mission of this org to promote books and reading in our town.

My daughter is studying animation in Chicago and was assigned to create an "emotion study." Even when she was drawing stick figures, I could tell what her little characters were thinking. But now - WOW!
I think I've watched it two dozen times🤩
