Arizona’s Ghost
At the edge of town, she glanced my way—
Never gave it a second thought, I dare say.
A flicker of her face, through doors, through windows,
Where am I? What is this strange place?
This town bends where her shadow falls,
Crooked streets hum with her name, a pulse.
I chase her scent, that exhilarating glow,
My lungs burn for what I’ll never know.
“Give me something!” I beg, boots on cracked stone,
“Stop running, just a crumb before you’re gone!”
But she’s air, she’s mist—she's gone again.
My head spins like a tilt-a-whirl, sinning with want.
Round and round, her utilities echo’s a taunt—
In fogged alleys, her laugh, sharp as cracked glass.
I turn, she’s there, then not, a cruel sleight.
This town wears her face in the gaslight.
Then—her eyes. I’m frozen by your long warm stare,
Your presence runs through me, a current, a tear.
It leaves me breathless, spent, I reach for you—
Helpless in ruin, I lay where you pass through.
Her smile, wide as the canyon so grand,
Hair gently moving, like palm tree leaves fanned,
Stirred softly by air, nary one to compare—
Rise, come out, show me, stranger, I swear.
You look like so much fun, dammit, again you’re on the run.
Stop, put out your hand—a moment with you I’d keep,
A memory for nights of loneliness when I cannot sleep.
Your shadow’s all I’d need to quiet this heart’s deep ache.
I will not stop my relentless pursuit,
For one more glance, I’d crawl, I’d mute.
A simple man in his shackles and chains,
For just one glance, in my mind her imprint remains.
Where are you now? Come out, I plead,
Your scent lingers, a ghost my hands can’t seize.
There you are—gone again, a thief of my air.
This town’s a maze, and you’re its only prayer

The Chase for the Dawn
In the darkest hour, where shadows claw and creep,
The dream glimmers faint, a promise buried deep.
Close enough to taste, yet too far to hold,
Its glow on the horizon, fierce, untamed, and bold.
Claws of destruction snap at your heels,
Long nails of deceit scrape, their venom feels.
Vultures circle, bellies swollen, yet ravenous still,
Their screams echo hunger, a relentless shrill. You run, heart pounding, through the fog and the maze,
Doubt’s heavy haze twists, blinds, betrays.
But your vision burns bright, a beacon, a guide,
Pulling you forward where hope still resides. Look back, they’re grinning, those specters of dread,
Their whispers like chains, sowing fear in your head.
Yet you stomp through the anguish, you raise your fist high,
Defying the dark with a fire in your eye. The dream is your compass, its pulse is your call,
Through the haze and the anguish, you’ll rise, never fall.
Each step claims your space, where no force can displace,
A throne you’ve carved out in this merciless race. Courage fills your lungs, like a storm in your chest,
Up the ladder you climb, rung by rung, no rest.
Face to the sun, you smile, it’s been a while—
The weights finally lifted, your soul’s found its style. You’ve fought, you’ve endured, through the torment and scorn,
Now stand in your triumph, in the light of the morn.
The dream’s not elusive—it’s yours, it’s been won,
Point your face to the dawn, for the battle is done.

@AuthorTRobare@JasonWMizer That’s a really common challenge, Timothy, getting readers to leave a review is often tougher than getting them to read! I’ve got a few strategies that tend to boost review rates significantly. I can share them with you if you DM me.

@AuthorTRobare@JasonWMizer Struggling with reviews? You’re not alone! Early ARC readers can help a lot, they give honest feedback and kickstart momentum for your book.
@thelordoffishes Love seeing your progress, chapter 23 is a huge milestone! Sharing little insights like the music that fits your story is gold, because readers connect with those details. It’ll be a great hook for marketing later on
Most authors post “Buy my book!” and wonder why sales don’t grow.
The truth: readers buy stories, not sales pitches.
Share snippets, reviews, or your journey. Build curiosity first, sales will follow.
