@USAIDAfgMD Please can you help? My ‘adopted’ Afghan son is an asylum seeker in the UK. He was a student representative with @USAID Afg. in Logar Province 2020/21. He needs a letter of proof for the Home Office. Are there records?
I've lived in the UK for 2 decades. I've built my life and dreams because of the kindness shown to me by the British people as a refugee.
The violence we are witnessing on our streets doesn't represent the true British values I've come to know. We should fight it with better understanding and building bridges, not with more violence.
But the racism and division spewed by certain politicians, individuals, and extreme media over migration are responsible for the hatred on our streets. It's time to root out such narratives.
It was the narrowness of the debate that was most shocking. A competition in cruelty about refugees & shameful silence on the Climate Crisis, Gaza, & the economic costs of Brexit. Leaving out other parties from debate is bad for democracy. Me on #BBCDebate for @BBCNews 👇
2 men trying to outdo each other with cruelty to some of most vulnerable people - totally dehumanising debate about refugees & asylum seekers. Note to them both: people seeking asylum are not “illegal migrants” - what we need to stop the boats are safe & legal routes #BBCDebate
“We didn’t choose to leave our countries but we had to.” Refugees wrote notes on paper boats.
My heart is broken a little bit every day but having a chance to improve lives just a tiny bit helps stick it together again.

"He had to walk out of the country, stepping over dead bodies, and now he's under threat with this Rwanda bill."
Caller Tracey, the unofficial adoptive mother of a 21-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, tells @mrjamesob she's 'heartbroken' as he's in line to go to Rwanda.
I had my say on @mrjamesob LBC discussion this morning over whether the #RwandaBill will stop small boats. It won’t, only cause more trauma and devastation.
I’m heartbroken at the passing of the #RwandaBill. I promised my Afghan son’s mother on videocall that I’d look after him … his asylum case was paused pending this decision. Please show #support 😢😢😢😢
Happy St George's Day everyone. A day to celebrate a Greek Roman soldier who never visited England.
Also a day to regret the passing of the #RwandaBill that would probably apply to St George if he came looking for asylum from the threat of crucifixion for his Christian faith.
I've been there a few times before, and it was good to see @authortrace again, who helped me find the information I was after for my stitch - the word for 'welcome' in some of the languages spoken by the visitors.

“As I wave, she places her hand over her heart and holds it there. I keep waving, unable to communicate with her any other way. Then it comes to me, the language she’ll understand, “Let her see us together.”
