No other spell gets a consistent 70+ damage, that much knockback, and range for so little investment turn one.

The result is the meta is generalist books focusing around a few good offensive spells and map control instead of more interesting specialist books.

It's funny seeing a balance change for something I've disliked in a game for over a decade.

Arcanist, shock bomb is a spell balanced by being "inconsistent"(bouncy) but is in effect very consistent, and has a ton of damage and knockback.
