There is too much healing & work that needs to be done within myself & my family for me to be advocating at this time. I feel it’s my responsibility to show up as my best self before returning for future advocacy projects. I love you all, don’t forget to make yourself a priority.
Am I the only one who wonders why autism parents feel it’s fair to weaponize the abilities of #ActuallyAutistic adults & compare their experiences to their child’s? Can we collectively just call bullshit on how illogical this comparison is?
#AskingAutistics
He had JUST sat down with his coffee as we drove by. I couldn’t believe it. Today was a reminder that all families have their shit. But it’s how you show up for one another that matters. (4/4)
#ActuallyAutistic
As many families have experienced, I recently had a major falling out with my parents. It completely devastated me on a level I can’t begin to describe as I have been super close with them for the past decade. My 30th birthday was last week & I got the courage to call my dad. 1/4
A STARBUCKS OUTSIDE. Mind you, he lives thousands of miles away. I started yelling “STOP THE CAR, THATS MY DAD HOLY SHIT STOP THE CAR!” and literally jumped out of the moving car & ran across the street crying. I hugged him & he said, “I just thought you needed a hug.” (3/4)
@GiftedNotBroken I really appreciate your perspective on this. To be even more brash, I feel it’s a gang mentality in a way for an “us VS them” situation
I was blocked so I can’t retweet this. But if you believe in this logic, you’re essentially dividing the community even further & the reason why #ActuallyAutistic adults & the ND movement have a bad rep.
@queersailorsco1 Question though, does this logic apply to other diagnoses as well? Whether it’s mental health, disease, OB, ADHD, etc, or is it JUST autism? That no one can be an expert unless it is a part of them?
@clumsy_Jen @Kirsty_H220 Also, “autistic barbie” is my alter ego and just a fun random bullshit thing I created as an outlet after my diagnosis. I don’t get engagement bc of the “Barbie”. I get engagement bc of my efforts & advocacy. You can see much more of this on IG.
@clumsy_Jen @Kirsty_H220 I also have created a petition with almost 40,000 signatures to ban children’s autism meltdowns on YouTube. I work endlessly and create so much content for free. I don’t get engagement bc of my looks. If anything I get way more hate bc of it.
@clumsy_Jen @Kirsty_H220 I’m really confused by this comment and feel it’s aimed at me. Please correct me if it’s not. But I don’t hang out on Twitter. I make tweets and use the sensory friendly images on IG where I have dedicated hundreds of hours of my free labor into advocating.
