A small update: I’m doing fractionated IMRT radiotherapy with a Novalis TX system. 13/27 sessions down. It’s too early to tell how things are going, but I'll keep you posted. I’m so incredibly thankful for your prayers and kind words on my previous tweet; I'm deeply moved.

On April 21, Russia’s state Channel 1 aired a report on claimed Russian “liberation” of Hryshyne, Donetska Region in Ukraine.

It features a video of two assault troopers from the 35th Motor Rifle Brigade storming a house and unfolding a flag outside of it. Narrator: “The fighters of the legendary 35th Brigade of the Center force grouping, also known as ‘The Unstoppable,’ are raising Russian and Aleysk unit flags at various locations in Hryshyne… This is how our lead two-man team cleared one of the fortified positions… From this house, Ukrainian Armed Forces operators were launching heavy hexacopters armed with mines.”

The video was filmed not in Hryshyne, however, but in Mykhailivka, about 30 kilometers from the claimed location, in Russia’s rear.

Today I’m writing to share a personal matter and some sad news. My dear colleague @JulianRoepcke is leaving BILD, and, if Medieninsider is correct, he is giving up his career as a journalist. This is a huge blow to journalism covering Ukraine, particularly in Germany.

Whatever one may think of him personally, no one can deny that he has worked his fingers to the bone over the past few years to report on Ukraine and its efforts to defend itself against Russia. On countless occasions, he has left the comfort of his own desk and travelled to Ukraine to share the experiences of civilians on the ground and accompany the armed forces in their missions. In doing so, he has repeatedly put himself in great danger, despite having a family waiting for him at home.

Julian and I have been in personal contact from time to time for quite some time now, and I have come to know him as a very dedicated and passionate individual and journalist. Particularly during the Scholz government, his (mostly exclusive) reporting on German support was a regular source for my own reporting.

I know very, very few journalists in Germany who still report on Ukraine (many had largely turned their backs under the Merz government) and bring the same level of dedication to the job. So, once again, the fact that he is likely to be giving up journalism and professional reporting on Ukraine is a huge loss to everyone.
