WHAT IS BS EN ISO 10211 and BR 497?
The full title of BS EN ISO 10211 is Thermal bridges in building construction. Heat flows and surface temperatures. Detailed calculations, and the current edition was published in 2017.
The same numerical modelling methods can also be used to calculate U-values. The results of simplified heat loss calculation techniques, such as the combined method in BS EN ISO 6946, are typically validated using the more complex calculation method set out in BS EN ISO 10211.
Building Regulations โ Part L โ Conservation of Fuel and Power
In December 2021 Part L came into force. Part L has lowered the U-Value and Energy Ratings on windows and doors. This is for both new builds and renovations. The aim is to create even more energy efficient windows.
Linear thermal bridging has traditionally been overlooked asย details are not necessarily reproducible from one site to another. Libraries of common details and psi values are now accessible, but if one cannot be applied to a circumstance, a bespoke detail must be computed.

Beyond the relatively straightforward definition of what they measure, psi values are also one of the most important tools that building designers and specifiers can use when looking to adopt a fabric first approach on projects.
