After my mom died a childhood friend I hadn’t spoken to in decades reached out to offer condolences and to share that her fondest memory of my mom was from a camping trip when she ran through the woods in bare feet carrying a machete and yelling at the drunk teenage boys camping nearby to stop harassing us girls in the middle of the night. What an absolute legend she was.
She was on her own. No backup. No time to think. 💙
When PC Rhona Adams arrived at a McDonald’s in Bradford last June, she was single-crewed and expecting to check on a vulnerable woman in distress. What she walked into was something else entirely.
The woman had locked herself in the disabled toilet, poured oil over herself, and set herself on fire.
Without hesitation, PC Adams opened the door, was met with flames and screaming, and ran in anyway. She used her bare hands to smother the fire, held the woman tightly to stop her from moving, and directed restaurant staff to bring her a fire extinguisher, which she used to put out the rest of the blaze. She then provided first aid and kept the woman calm until paramedics arrived.
Thanks to her actions, the woman survived with only first and second degree burns.
Rhona’s just been awarded the King’s Commendation for Bravery, and she was a nominee at this year’s National Police Bravery Awards.
This is the reality of frontline policing. You’re alone. You don’t always get a plan. But when the public need you, you go.
How many people do you know who would’ve done the same?

1 car crash and 2 of the most difficult but greatest months of my life.
I’m an emotional mess tonight but I just want to say, no matter how dark a place you are in. It can and WILL get better. 2 years ago I was in the darkest place in my life, 2 years later we have made history.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me. I love you all very much. I’ll do a post when I’m able to process what’s just happened. MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS ❤️
WEEK ONE COMPLETED ❤️ Day 7 completed of running the length of the UK.
20 miles smashed out today in what I would say has been the toughest day so far. Physically I’m feeling great but certainly feeling the 6 hours of alone time in the middle of nowhere everyday. Hoping the progress of moving up the country will help the motivation a bit. Got to be real, I burst into tears in a random Devon field listening to oasis, idek myself.
But as they say, it doesn’t matter how much motivation you have it’s all about the discipline and I know I won’t be going home until I reach that finish line no matter how slow or long it takes.
Time for an early night and then 14-15 miles to Tiviton. Thank you for all the donations and love- mental health matters ❤️

hardest thing for me to grasp as an adult is you have to keep showing up no matter how you feel. you gotta do this shit sad, do it heartbroken, do it grieving, do it tired. life doesn’t care, it waits for nobody, you just have to keep going.
At least once a day, I momentarily forget that I don’t have a mum anymore. I think:
Mum would like that.
I’ll tell Mum that.
I’ll get that for Mum.
Mum will think that’s funny.
It’s still inconceivable to me that she’s no longer in the world.
American troops burned Vietnamese childrėn alive with napalm.
They used 388,000 tons of napalm to burn almost 1 million people to dėath.
It wasn’t even 60 years ago.
