Russia for the first time used a new light cruise missile "Banderol" in Ukraine...

This was reported by Ukrainian sources. Probably after collecting the debris. The fact that Russia is creating an inexpensive light-class cruise missile codenamed "Banderol" was discussed last year. In May of this year, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the missile had gone into series production and would soon be used. And three weeks later, Kiev-based sources also reported the first confirmed use of it.

Technical characteristics of the "Banderol" cruise missile. Little is known about it, so the information is based on open sources and comparative characteristics of missiles of similar size and class.

Length - about 5m.
Diameter of the body - 30 cm.
Weight - 500 - 600 kg
flight speed - cruising over 500 km/h, at the target about 650 km/h.
range - over 500 km.
warhead - 150 kg.

Given the known characteristics and the possible launchers used, it can be assumed that the cost of the new missile will be in the range of 50-70 thousand US dollars (in equivalent). Which is an order of magnitude cheaper than the classic "Calibers" and X-101. And given the possible cheap carriers (I assume tactical aircraft and even helicopters).

Such a weapon will be an important addition to the strike "Geraniums" (with much greater hit capabilities).

However, given the characteristics, ordinary infantry and "drone" units of the enemy will not be able to fight against such missiles. Only anti-aircraft missile systems and fighter jets. Which will immediately dramatically increase the load on the latter and increase the percentage of effectiveness of our strikes. Which we will be able to deliver with this new "missile-drone" practically throughout the entire territory of Ukraine (except for its westernmost part).

Including, it will be able to successfully strike at the enemy's bridges across the Dnieper. A valuable acquisition in a war of attrition.

Following the Ukrainian drone strike on the turbine hall of Unit 6 of the Zaporozhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that in the event of a disaster at the plant due to Kiev's attacks, a symmetrical strike could follow, RBK reports.

"Obviously, in the event of a catastrophic destruction of the turbine hall or reactor hall of the nuclear power plant, a new Chernobyl would occur. And this would be no better than the use of tactical nuclear weapons. The response to such actions could be a symmetrical strike against Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as well as against nuclear power plants in NATO countries involved in the conflict," Medvedev stated.

The war in Ukraine will not end in peace.
The war in Ukraine will end with Ukraine's capitulation. If Ukraine's capitulation requires Europe's capitulation, then the war in Ukraine will end with Europe's capitulation. Clearly, the likelihood of nuclear war in such a scenario is very high. The West itself, by escalating the war, is leading Russia to such a development of events.

As I pointed out at some length earlier, the "Ukrainian drone wall" lacks the rate of fire and scalability to actually stop a massed armored attack. What is deadly to a company is hazardous to a battalion and an annoyance to a regiment.

With that being said, the Russians seem to be focused on the full development and utilization of modern "empty battlefield" tactics instead of smashing through with brute force and ignorance. Ukraine is an ideal proving ground to develop new doctrine for the information age - close to home, sophisticated and, for the Russians at least, non-existential. Radically dispersed units networked together using modern communications methods and utilizing smart weapons to their maximum potential have transformed the battlefield.

Just recently, over the course of a mere week the Russians pushed into the heart of the "fortress city" of Konstantinovka like an army of ghosts. Elsewhere across the front the Ukrainians seem to have no idea where exactly the Russians are - beyond that they're absolutely out there somewhere because every time the AFU moves aboveground they get smashed, and occasionally a couple Russian soldiers show up to take possession of their trench afterwards. Of course the war mappers are completely out to lunch on this dynamic and are busily drawing neat little lines on the map like it's WWII.

This has allowed Russian troops to inflict vastly disproportionate casualties on the AFU, which still relies on strongpoints packed with conscripts to hold ground (the "drone wall" in and of itself holds nothing but merely serves as a sort of smart obstacle belt) and massed armored maneuver in the Cold War style during counterattacks. In 2024 the kill ratio between Ukraine and Russia - derived from publicly available data on military amputations, body exchanges, and the colossal firepower disparity across the battlespace - stood at no less than 30 to 1 and it has doubtless become even steeper since. At this point, I believe, it's simply a matter of scaling "ghost" offensive techniques perfected on a small scale in 2025 to begin chewing through the front on an industrial level.

People forget that the Russian military doesn't just want to win the war, they want to win the war clean, with a minimum of friendly-force casualties, and postured to as the dominant military power in Europe going forward. This requires wholly new tactics for the information age - not a charnel-house offensive.

It's also worth noting that there's currently a huge swath of front - a thousand kilometers of Russian and Belarusian border from Sumy to Lvov, some of it in spitting distance of Kiev - that the Russians simply aren't using to outflank the AFU and which hasn't been activated. This suggests - as I have pointed out before on many occasions - that they are focused on the most efficient attrition of the AFU on convenient lines in the Donbass, advancing only when convenient, rather than on taking huge swathes of territory. It's always important to keep sight of what the Russians are by all indications actually trying to do - efficient attrition in a slow and steady war - rather than the blood and glory big arrows the chattering war commentators online would so love to see.
