I can’t help but think that removing this person from all of their possessions (clothes, purse, etc) will just continue the cycle of poverty and/or “crime” further? The stuff was just left there, ripe to be taken by someone else. Idk, this is such a complex and sad crisis

On my way to work this morning I saw two security guards taking away (?) someone who clearly didn’t have stable housing. All of this persons belongings - including a purse - was just left scattered on the street. I have zero clue what happened so I’m not commenting on that but

Today, 8 per cent of sexual assaults reported to police are being closed as unfounded, a law-enforcement term that means the allegation is false or baseless. This is down from the 19-per-cent rate that The Globe reported in its 2017 Unfounded series.

So happy for our client Sara. After a 5-week trial, the jury returned a verdict awarding her years of wrongfully denied disability benefits, $40K aggravated damages for mental distress, and $1.5 million in punitive damages against the insurer (among the highest ever in Canada).
