JD Vance says Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race is the real attack on democracy (Democratic primary voters also voted for Kamala Harris, of course)
People ask me what I mean when I say there is a lot of propaganda about the protests, despite the fact that I already went over several examples in detail, but here is another great example.
I was skeptical of this tweet from the outset because, although I don't speak Arabic, I know that "Jews" sounds like "yahud" in Arabic and I couldn't hear that at any point in the video.
So I looked into it and, based on what many Arabic speakers are saying and what people who tried machine translation found, it seems that what they're saying is not "death to Jews" but "death to Zionism".
This was first turned into "death to Zionists" by some people, then into "death to Jews" by this guy and now that claim is being repeated by thousands of people even though it's false.
I can believe that the first mistake was made in good faith, because the word in Arabic for "Zionists" (alsahayina) seems close to the word for "Zionism" (sahyunia), but it's hard to see how the second could not be deliberate because again at no point in the video can one hears anything that remotely sounds like "yahud".
Now I can already tell that people are going to defend this guy by saying that it doesn't make any difference because "death to Zionism" is just as bad as "death to Jews", but that's obviously disingenuous.
I think that's obviously false, nobody thinks that "death to capitalism" is the same as "death to capitalists", let alone "death to X" where X is some group that includes many people who aren't capitalists, but it doesn't even matter.
What matters is that, even if you think it's just as bad, you surely understand that many people disagree and therefore it's dishonest to pretend the students in that video chanted "death to Jews". Indeed, if there really were no difference, then why would people distort the chant in the first place? 🤔
This is so obvious that it should be totally uncontroversial, yet I already know that many people in the replies are going to engage in mental gymnastic to deny it, criticize me for things I didn't say and make more or less veiled accusations of antisemitism against me...
I also know that, months from now, I will hear people confidently assert that students chanted "death to Jews" while thinking about this video, because now that the claim has been repeated by thousands of people it has essentially been established as fact for many people.
This is just crazy to me and I honest don't understand how so many people can't see that. Whatever you think of the protests, surely you should agree that this is misleading and that it's wrong, but I know many of you won't.
When they don't accuse me of antisemitism, people say that I only point out this kind of things out of "contrarianism", but if asking that people uphold basic standards of honesty and truth even when they're talking about people they don't like makes one a "contrarian", then I wish there were more contrarians 🤷♂️
So Kendrick said, you're a child predator and employ a sex trafficker and you have a daughter you don't acknowledge, and Drake said, bullshit, I don't have a daughter..
