@Kekius_Sage you will have already decided how much money Elon has invested there, all the resources have different figures, and Elon himself says he has invested $ 100 million.
The views expressed in this post by Owen are typical among the poorly educated multicultural academics hired through DEI. One typical mistake these pseudo scholars make is to presume that mere geographical and trade contacts define a civilization. I should say "define Western civilization" since this premise is applied only to Western civilization in order to justify the current imposition of multiculturalism. It is a premise that willfully ignores the distinctive spirit, institutions, and immense intellectual achievements of Western civilization. The West alone achieved far more than all the other civilizations combined.
Let's start with Ancient Greece. Its origin was Western, not Eastern. The Greek sense of who they were was self-consciously set against the East, particularly during the Persian Wars. Aeschylus states this contrast between Greek freedom and Asiatic despotism directly. In The Persians (472 BC), Queen Atossa asks who commands the Athenians. The Chorus replies:
"They are called slaves of no man, nor subjects either."
This whole play is about how Persians prostrate themselves, pay tribute under compulsion, and live under a king who is seen as god-like. In total contrast, the Greeks are portrayed as free men who fight for their own land, wives, ancestral tombs, and the temples.
As Edith Hamilton explains, the ancient Greeks were "the first Westerners" in their curiosity, writing style, philosophical sophistication, historical awareness, and free spirit.
Only in the Greek world do we find the beginnings of equal justice under law for private disputes; public office open to merit, not birth.
Ionia, the Black Sea, and Cyrenaica were Greek colonies, not eastern; the Greeks exported their way of life to these colonies. There is no evidence that the core culture of ancient Greece was "Asiatic".
The alphabet the Greeks adapted from the Phoenicians was thoroughly transformed with Phoenician consonants becaming a true phonetic alphabet with vowels.
There is no Homeric tragedy in the Eastern world revolving around aristocratic men striving for individual heroic deeds and glory. There is no philosophical reflection rooted in reason. There is no history as "inquiry", seeking causal explanations for events.
Yes, Thales and the Milesians used Near Eastern thought, but it was they who invented "theoria", that is, impersonal, critical, naturalistic explanation. The logic Aristotle invented had no precedent in the entire history of non-White world, not even in China, apart from what Muslims learned from him.
There were no autonomous Greek cities in the Eastern world. Ancient Greek art, myth, and religion were totally different. The Greeks humanized the gods by portraying them in human form, with human passion. Unlike the simple gods of the East, the Greek gods were morally complex, beautiful, fallible, and subject to fate just like humans. They were not the remote, animal like gods of the East, or gods with purely cosmic powers controlled by closed minded priests.
The Greeks also originated the heroic nude in sculpture, and carried out the first experiments in pictorial perspective. Their art was one of rational balance, proportion, measured harmony. Because the Greeks were free, and had athletic manly bodies, they treated the human body as the measure of beauty and order.
The Western way of war began with the Greeks. As V.D Hanson shows, a decisive novelty that allowed the Greeks to defeat the huge Persian empire was the hoplite phalanx of free citizens owning their own land. They fought "decisive shock battle". This civic militarism, manly discipline and preference for open confrontation, was adapted and greatly improved by the Macedonians with their phalanxes, and by the Romans with their short swords and mobile legions.
The core of Republican Rome was Italian and then European, not Eastern. The Republic and early Empire were totally built by Latin and Italic peoples. Among all the peoples they encountered in the Mediterranean world, they felt a spiritual affinity with the ancient Greeks. They romanized Greek high culture.
The fact that Romans conquered territories in north Africa does not mean Rome was African. That's absurd. The Roman provinces in Africa and Asia were ruled from an Italian center that imposed Latin, law, roads, and citizenship on these territories, civilizing them.
Roman law, engineering, and administration are original Western achievements. As Philippe Nemo shows, Roman private property, the legal persona, contracts, and a jurisprudence of equity and reason have no parallel in the East.
Roman aqueducts, concrete, roads, and military engineering were far superior.
The Roman army was Western, evolving from the Greek-Macedonian way of war and civic militarism. The Romans created the most efficient army the world had ever seen, defeating all the Eastern armies, truly a professional force.
Before Romans, Hellenistic armies added the long phalanx, and systematically combined heavy cavalry, light troops, elephants, and siege towers. Rome added the "flexible legion with pilum and gladius," fortified camps, roads and bridges built by the army itself.
That's how they created the greatest empire in human history.
Christianity was Hellenized and then Europeanized. As the German scholar Hengel has demonstrated, Palestinian Judaism itself was already deeply Hellenized by Greek language, gymnasia, education, philosophy. The New Testament is written in Greek. The Church Fathers (Justin, Origen, the Cappadocians, Augustine, and many others) expressed Christianity in Platonic and Stoic terms.
It has long been shown that the Middle Ages were not an age of darkness but of continuous creativity, starting with the rejuvenation of manly vigor by the Germanic invasions, the Carolingian Renaissance, Ottonian revival, the "twelfth-century renaissance" associated with invention of universities, scholasticism, including the "papal revolution" that systematically combined Greek reason, Roman law, and Christian ethics, followed by Gothic architecture, and the recovery of Aristotle, and new theories of motion that anticipated Galileo, and much more.
Only a lesbianized male like Owen would make the claim that the West rose after 1800. The "rise" of the West, as I explain in Uniqueness of Western Civilization, and in Greatness and Ruin, is a long process of unique institutions, unique ideas, and technological innovations. White men discovered and mapped the entire Earth, developed all the disciplinary fields of knowledge, exhibited the greatest originality in art, in music, in architecture, philosophy...they invented almost all the sports, from ancient to modern times.
“Reality is too heavy for people, so they rent illusion and call it God”
- Friedrich Nieztzhe
Friedrich Nietzsche examined morality, nihilism, religion, suffering, power, individuality, and the challenge of establishing new values when traditional beliefs lose their authority. In works such as Beyond Good and Evil, On the Genealogy of Morality, and Thus Spoke Zarathustra, he investigated the origins of moral principles, questioning whether ideas of goodness always arise from strength or can instead emerge from fear, resentment, and societal influence. His philosophy urged individuals to critically evaluate their beliefs rather than accept them simply because they have been passed down through generations.
Nietzsche’s goal was not simply to dismantle established beliefs, but to encourage people to develop the strength to live independently of them. He warned that the collapse of traditional sources of meaning could lead to nihilism, leaving individuals convinced that life held no inherent value. Through his concept of self-overcoming, he proposed a different approach: continually challenge yourself, develop your own values, and embrace existence despite its pain and uncertainty. To Nietzsche, becoming who you are meant to be was not about uncovering a predetermined identity, but possessing the courage to shape one through your own choices and transformation.
@GeografosMx@Glenn_Diesen you don't quite understand how Russia and Ukraine are connected to each other, almost the entire Russian elite has some relatives in Ukraine and Ukrainians. And to do what you say is a tragedy for the Russians themselves.
@dr_duchesne@Brockiuiy As you know, Rome had a sewer system and a public bath. And now, attention, it is reliably known from the HADITH that the Prophet Muhammad went to the toilet just dug a hole in his yard and ordered to wipe himself with three stones or sand.
@mohammed_derhim @ShaykhSulaiman Islam is the most politicized religion. Your words about not making religion a political weapon in the context of Islam look absolutely delusional.
@elonmusk Nikolai Semenovich Kardashev is a Soviet and Russian astronomer, a specialist in the field of experimental and theoretical astrophysics and radio astronomy.
Geoffrey Hinton says a big language model runs on about 1% of your brain's connections and still ends up knowing more than you:
"So in your brain, you have a hundred trillion connections, roughly speaking. Okay. That's a lot. And you only live for about two billion seconds. That's not much."
"If you compare how many seconds you live for, with how many connections you've got, you have a whole lot more connections than experiences."
"Now with these neural nets, it's sort of the other way round. They only have of the order of a trillion connections. So like 1% of your connections, even in a big language model, many of them fewer, but they get thousands of times more experience than you."
"So the big language models are solving the problem with not many connections, only a trillion. How do I make use of a huge amount of experience?"
"And back propagation is really, really good at packing huge amounts of knowledge into not many connections."
"But that's not the problem we're solving. We've got huge numbers of connections, not much experience. We need to sort of extract the most we can from each experience."
Two to three billion seconds is the whole budget. Everything you know, you learned inside it.
So evolution built you to squeeze a lot out of very little. Hinton's point is that a language model has the opposite problem and the opposite fix, and backprop turned out to be extremely good at that fix.
Worth noticing what this predicts about failure. A system running on 1% of your wiring and thousands of times your experience is not going to fail the way you do.
You fail from having seen too few examples. It fails from compressing too many into too little, and the compression is where the errors get made.
That is a strange thing to be deploying into hospitals and courts with no way to inspect it. We test these systems by asking them questions, which tells you what came out. Nobody can yet look at a trillion connections and say what got packed in.

@Lumpy21141798@PloetzM1776@GunloverClub1 As I see it in Russia. Most likely, this is a training machine with blanks. Because in Russia it is strictly forbidden to give firearms to children, otherwise the instructor would have been hanged.
@JetherBlaise@dr_duchesne you deserve credit for knowing such personalities. Although I am not a supporter of Hegel's ideas, his influence should not be underestimated, although he is lower than Plato and Aristotle, but definitely next to Kant
@JetherBlaise@dr_duchesne Why is deep thinking so alien to you black people? Why are you so shallow, just like children. Philosophy is what builds civilizations, and without philosophy no civilization can survive, it is the foundation. And for you it's just a word.
