FIRST HARVEY MILK.
NOW DORIE MILLER.
Milk served his country. Trump’s Pentagon erased his name from a Navy ship.
Dorie Miller fought at Pearl Harbor in a SEGREGATED Navy. He saved wounded sailors, grabbed a gun he’d never been trained to use and fought back.
He became the first Black American awarded the Navy Cross.
Now the Navy is stripping HIS name from an aircraft carrier — and replacing it with DONALD TRUMP’S.
The gay veteran erased.
The Black war hero erased and replace with draft-dodger Trump himself?
This isn’t “merit.”
It’s homophobic & racist erasure.
DORIE MILLER EARNED THAT SHIP.
TRUMP CAN KEEP HIS FUCKING NAME OFF IT.
The Navy has already effectively stopped calling it the USS Doris Miller internally. CNN reports it is now referred to by its hull number, CVN-81, even though no rename has been announced. That looks less like deliberation than the name disappearing ahead of the paperwork.
Consider what is being displaced. This was to be the first carrier named for an enlisted sailor and the first named for a Black American, a Pearl Harbor hero who manned a gun he had never trained on and later died in combat. Trump's name is reportedly among the replacements being discussed. Miller's family was not even told.
Housing near transit lets people drive less.
A new Terner/Lewis Center study finds California's current housing plans will cut driving just 1%, since cities keep building in car-dependent areas.
Building instead in walkable, transit-served areas could push that to 6%.
@KarenBassLA You support corporate consolidation and losing LA county 10k jobs. Should have been doing this from day one, this is clearly just opportunistic.
LA’s great weather means peeps wanna be outside, but it also means we need more resources and infrastructure surrounding recreational things. People will sit on tennis courts and not be honest about their time. We need monitors, more courts, and better signage.
@CD5LosAngeles
A story that should make your blood boil. LA has lost 57,000 jobs in film and TV during the four years Karen Bass has been mayor. But it still took Mayor Bass almost THREE YEARS to appoint a film czar. Now shows set in Los Angeles are being shot in ... New Jersey.
In the debate last night, the mayor talked about how much she wants to do as mayor, after four years of being the mayor. Homelessness is up, the population of the city shrinking, we're not paving roads because the city can't build a ramp for less than 50 grand, and we're WAY behind on the city's own plan to build new housing even as the mayor caves to NIMBYs to try to fight development all over LA.
So Bass spends the night pandering to a small group of mostly white and wealthy homeowners in Sherman Oaks. But those homeowners are ALSO angry about rising homelessness and declining services which are in fact downstream of their policy preferences! It's a farce.
The fundamental question for LA is: who will govern with the urgency and aggressiveness that reflects the actual scale of the emergency in this city? Bass hasn't. Nithya would.

Maybe it’s time to do something about all this… prolly not a good idea to wait until the midterms to bring up, cuz we gotta get RFK outta there and regulations back. This is insane.
I'm sorry the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association didn't pay for a zoom account that would have allowed more people to watch the unhinged mayoral debate I just watched.
