On 6th June, HVP Gatagara Gikondo, through its EU supported project, partnered with THT to conduct a technical capacity building workshop with the 10 anti-discrimination clubs operating in the 10 ordinary schools in Kicukiro district.
The aim of the workshop was to review the work progress of the school clubs in promoting the disability rights and inclusion in their respective schools. So far so good as revealed by the collected testimonies from club members who attended the workshop.
Today, under the European Union supported project ( through CBM, the project is being implemented by HVP Gatagara), a training of 50 Community Health Workers (CHWs) was conducted at HVP Gatagara. #EUinRW#kicukiroDistr#hvpgatagaraGik
The today's training topic on positive parenting comes as one of the topics aimed at empowering the CHWs to effectively support persons with disabilities in their respective communities. Other topics include the disability rights and inclusion, intellectual disability, etc.
Under this project, the CHWs, do play a crucial role by collaborating with the project's Community Based Rehabilitation agents in doing regular home visits to work towards a change in mindset of families and empower them to manage the intellectual disabilities of their children.
The project title is "Enhancing access to inclusive quality education, and community well-being for children with intellectual disabilities and their families in Kicukiro, City of Kigali" and it is a-three year project (October 2023-October 2026).
