3A State Softball Quarterfinals Recap
Southeast of Saline 7, Lakin 0
Karlee Zurfluh delivered another dominant postseason performance as Southeast of Saline advanced to the state semifinals. Zurfluh struck out 11 and allowed just three hits in the complete-game shutout. The Trojans built an early lead with aggressive baserunning and timely hitting as Kyiah Samuelson finished with two hits and three stolen bases. Southeast of Saline improved to 25-1 under head coach Tyler Smith and will face Jefferson West in the semifinals Wednesday at KU-Arrocha Ballpark.
Jefferson West 4, Frontenac 2 (8 Inn.)
Jefferson West pulled off one of the biggest wins of the day, knocking off back to back defending champion Frontenac in extra innings. With the game tied 2-2 in the eighth, Harriet Dean delivered a two-run single to give the Tigers the lead for good. Addison Schwinn tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing just one earned run over eight innings. Frontenac tied the game in the sixth behind an RBI double from Mia Bloom before Jefferson West answered late.
Haven 8, Baxter Springs 3
Haven continued its impressive season behind a dominant outing from Avery Brawner. The Wildcats ace struck out 14 while allowing three runs over seven innings. Baxter Springs briefly grabbed the lead in the third before Haven answered and took control with a three-run double from Paige O’Neal in the fourth inning. Haven collected 10 hits overall and improved to 28-2 heading into the semifinals.
Silver Lake 10, Colby 0
Silver Lake rolled into the semifinals with a dominant run-rule victory over Colby. Saylor Liggatt powered the Eagles offensively with four RBIs, including a three-run triple in the third inning. Riley Mohler was outstanding in the circle with 10 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout. Kailyn Hanni led the Eagles with three hits while Silver Lake finished with 11 hits total in the victory.
